3800 How do you gut a catalytic converter?

What's the trick to gutting the inside of the catalytic converter? Any suggestions? Ron?

I used a jack handle and a rubber mallot...BTW, wear a mask!

If you're putting it back on so it "looks" like it's there you'll want to run a pipe thorugh it to retain flow. It will actually flow less with no catalyst material in there than it will with the material in there unless you run a pipe through it.

he is saying that you just need to get the WBS 3" DP wo/ the cat

which is also what i would reccommend to maintain flow like he said.

@ Chipmonk - i already have a mandrel bent 3" DP and high-flow cat. . .

Sounds like too much trouble for little to no gain; i think i'm gonna pass on this project!

Skip the alt rewire, and just make sure your grounds are clean. FP rewire is a good idea for any car.

Yes Mike, you had knock last time I scanned your car also. Maybe you should ditch the PEM's and get some heeders (chad).

If i had some extra cash i'd buy Mike, 'supercharged' Pacesetters (or whatever they are) headers

Guess i'm stuck with the mods i have until we determine what the cause of my KR is - this sucks!

those were SLP.

pacesetters are less expensive
with what you can get for your pems and DP plus what ever you are willing to spend on the next mod should cover it

Ive never heard of anyone wanting to return their SLPs because they couldnt get the y pipe to seal.

You can seal up the Y pipe on the Pacesetters with proper caution. The problem is exacerbated so that a "fix" can be used as a marketing tool.

I've seen a handful of sets with what I would consider real issues, but that's the exception, not the rule.

The number one marketing tactic these days is touting solutions to non-existent problems.

Nonetheless, Mike's offering a smoking deal on those.

Short of welding (which I think 1 or 2 peeps on cgp still had leaks. Most likely due to the person behind the welder) you have to pray to god, sacrafice your left nut, and first born to get them to not leak.

Thanks, Johnny, i'm on the fence with this now and will keep that in mind.
BTW - did i ever send you those pics of your car/engine?

All in all my car has been very reliable with my current set-up. The last thing i want to do is sacrifice reliabilty for small gains. The kr has to go, but i think that could be fixed with a good Ron Vogel tuning! :cheers:

ps - aren't turbo cars running 12's with PEMs?

Don't get me wrong Mike, quality-wise SLPs are leaps and bounds better (sans the crappy flex pipe) but the PaceSetters are nowhere near as bad as they're made out to be.
