3800 back fire

when i step on it and get the RPMs up to 4500 then let off the gas there is a loud backfire what is it from, i have straight exhaust could it be from no back pressure?

lol its definitly from the straight pipe..... dont let off the gas so dramatically when your that high of RPM just let off and HOLD half way until the car shifts up for you. Much better for the trans.

hey man, every car like ours does that.. I have been through 3 exhaust systems and they all did that.. Its normal.. now if you have black smoke shooting out your mufflers thats a different story.. I have 3' with no cat right to mufflers and its crackly at times, but you get use to it.. Hope this helps...

If you want to bitch about backfires, listen to a SRT4. Our cars sound like little bitches when it comes to backfires compared to them.

SRT 4's are designed to backfire on purpose though. They're tuned to dump extra fuel into the chanber when you let off the gas to make it sound intimidating. Someone at Dodge was bored I think.

LOL. I almost bought one instead of the GTP. You can make 'em fast as Hell, but it costs too damn much and you get Neon build quality. Perhaps in the future I'll get one as a toy. In the mean time I'll stick with the GTP and perhaps get myself another DSM.

Everyone says borla and Corsa cost way to much but they do sound the best and the least like RICE.......


Drone at highway speeds is something else to consider as well.

Sound is in the ear of the beholder. You can get headers and a catback with stock mufflers and it will sound better. Either way, unless we can change the firing order, or add 2 cylinders, our cars will always sound pretty much the way they do.
