3800 Dex Cool Question ..

what steps have to be taken to switch from Dex Cool to reg. green stuff ? i remember seeing little info on this ? are there any pros or cons running either or ? is one more harnfull than the other short term or long term ?

any info is greatly appreciated.

Make sure you flush out the system thoroughly. I would suggest a few times. After that, put in the green stuff. I would suggest you flush out the green stuff yearly unlike Dex. Just my .02.

If you are running green antifreeze you need to make sure to get a complete flush to clear all of that out. I would run Dexcool over the standard green antifreeze anyday. It is the approved antifreeze for most GM cars. Just make sure to really get that green stuff out!

I heard that Dexcool creates a thick clayish film that can hurt the water pump once it dries. Is this true. When I had my caddi I had dexcool in it and decided to take my finger wipe it against the coolant valve and it does give alittle bit of a clay substance on the surfaces of the hoses. Thats when i flushed it to the max and did the green stuff

There have been similar reports about Dex causing some damage. Don't know if there's any solid info though.

that substance comes from when people put regular tap water into the system... oil change places are notorious for that.
the minerals in the water cause the sludge.

if adding water to dexcool system, you should only use distilled water.
