3800 Need axle help!

So I'm putting on a set of fabricated lower controls arms, passenger side was no problem. The driver's side is another story.

As I started working on it, I noticed the frame was coated with the dreaded green grease from the axle. As I lowered the strut, the inner boot slipped off, and I noticed that there are 3 needle bearing races that are slightly out of the carrier.

Well I think I can slip it all back together, but it may eventually need to be replaced.

Can the boot, carrier go back together without pulling the axle?

Do these usually fail?

push it back together, the boot might need to be RE-clamped, might need more new grease also

Thanks, I got it back together. I'm a little iffy on reusing the band clamp, but I re-crimped it after I got it off. It seemed less iffy re-using it than putting a worm drive clamp on it.

I had one start spewing green stuff, so I just bought a remanufactured one from advance auto parts for 60 bucks. It has the softer rubber boots. It takes less time to pull it out and put the new one in, then trying to replace just the boot.
