3800 supercharger fires

I was told by a friend, that the superchargers on these cars have been recalled cause they are known to catch fires, and just wanted to ask you guys if this was true or not. I did not belive him. well let me know ( 1999-2001)

Not true.

If anything has a recall it would be the steering racks and also fuel pump resistors are known to go bad on these cars.

Well my friend works at the GM PLANT for he's a warranty/claims/recalls specialist and I have sent him an email about this matter so we will see what he comes up with so we all know the truth!! I'll let you guys know as soon as he responds back to me.!

I know "Saberxray" had his hood insulation catch fire from the heat his SC was putting off, but then again he was on the autobaughn running 140+ for over an hour IIRC. (Must Be Nice)

i don't think running 140 for an hour on the autobahn is possible. I know you can do 160+ for short durations however

Maybe if the fuel line pops off and sprays it's self all over the SC and exhaust manifolds there mabe a fire, but you run that risk with every car.

I have heard this wise tale along time ago, and it is not true.

Not to sound like an ass, but why don't you do a search on clubgp for supercharger fires and see what you come up with. Reason why is because it has been around soo long you can get a good idea of how many times it has come up, and I cant remember hardly any for the 5 years I have been browsing the site.

Hmm i remember a certain GT that was converted to an L67.. IN the parking lot of a restaurant leaking fuel from the modified fuel lines..!!

And him saying oh stand back while I crank it over..LOL!!
