best 3800 exhaust manifold gaskets.

i have an exhaust leak in the back that I'm gonna try to fix this weekend...

the powerlog either cracked or the exhaust manifold gasket blewed out.

either way i'm going to replace the gasket... what's the best gasket to use for this?

I'm pretty sure it's the gasket and not the power log- but i could be wrong... although thinking about it- it does change a little with temp- and i would think that would be the gasket, not the manifold.

stock, and i blew out the end of a power log 2 years ago so it can be done, i just threw a new weld on it and it held up for the rest of the time i had the car , i also saw one with many cracks for sale last week on one of the facebook pages

i love how many people claim they all crack, yet I wasn't able to find a pic of one cracked

that's my game plan too if it is cracked- just hit it.

stock gm gasket is best gasket though?

thats all ive ever ran, i dont think ive ever bought one either just used the ones that came on the motors ive bought lol, clean between the layers with carb cleaner and throw them back on i never saw a cracked power log until mine blew out but the end actually blew out it wasnt really a crack

i don't remember what i used last time i put the rear on the car either.

I'm also leaning towards it being the gasket (probably cuz that's what I want it to be for one... ) because the sound changes as the car warms up. but who knows. the metal of the log could make that happen too.

James thinks his headers (that he didn't make BTW) are superior, especially to a product of ZZP. I think KJ's car has been running 4years longer than HK's, no way of knowing those headers won't crack too if the car doesn't run for more than a week a year.

FWIW - I've always used the GM gaskets and never had a problem.

at least they flow better than logs to make enough power so that we are always broken

do yourself a favor and grind away the three small spot welds so that you can separate the gasket into the two separate plates and use steel wool to clean off the carbon deposits that way you can be sure that they will seal 100% without debris in between the layers

if you look closely you will see three small dimples where the two sheets are spot welded together
you will take a dremel and a bit to grind away the center of the dimple so that you can separate and clean the gasket
