double dinn question

Hello all,

would a double din radio fit in the Grand prix? I have had mine for a while and never put it in. I was thinking about it today and done ever recall seeing anyone with one in their car either.if so, what do you need to put it in and how hard is it??

IIRC the gp is a "1.5 din" and you need to chop up the bezel and possibly move the hvac controls down to clear a double din

yeah i knew the bar had to be cut but i remember someone from the ILGPC days posted they had to fiberglass inside the cubby to hold the radio or something. Thats why Im not sure.

I was thinking I could cut the bazel and sand it so its smooth. Connecting the wire harness is the easy part. Do I just buy a 04 GTP double dinn dash install kit? Im thinking it should fit. All the ones I see on ebay are inter-changeable.

gm used similar control unit mounting over the years, the differences amount to the varying positions of the bolt holes and little alignment "pins" that protrude

its relatively easy to modify the pattern to rais/lower or swap control units

Yes I did and I don't exactly recommend this for a inexperienced person to mold the dash and making custom mounting brackets. I believe I had to cut the inside if the dash board a little bit
