Trans over drive question

What would make my car kick out of over drive once or twice then pop out and not go back in, on a 30 mile drive half way it will come out and just sit in fourth the rest of the trip, if the car was not loud as balls over 2k rpm I wouldn't care but it is

Have you checked for codes? Sounds like it's going into limp mode... does it shift harshly?

My old Olds did this for a while but went away after a bottle of Lucas and a suprise trans flush (cooler line rusted).

Limp mode sounds about right. Mine did this when the trans temps got too high.

limp mode due to trans temp sounds about right, i suppose i could invest in a trans cooler and put in the temp gauge that i havnt, its weird tho its happend a few times when i was just driving normal

Check for bent lines as well. Seems like if you're just cruising down the highway that the factory cooler should suffice.

Are you sure it isn't the TCC disengaging, It can feel like a gear shift if you are paying attention....

a very slight pressure to the brake pedal to turn on the brake lights will kick the trans outta TCC lockup immediatly so you can test if its TCC or an actual 4th gear issue

yeah its the same as tcc unlocking when i hit the brakes, rpm raises 300-400ish but it dosnt lock back up, so my converter isnt locking when this happens? i dont know much about the trans stuff, what would cause that

if your not over 6.25% throttle it wont reengage the tcc in 4th

I don't know maybe that is not it then, I will be driving along with the cruise set and all of a sudden it will jump from 1900rpm to 2300 rpm once or twice it sounds to me like its poping in and out of od, then it will just stay there the rest of the trip and not go back in

I'm not gonna be happy if its broke only 1500 miles on it and I've changed the trans fluid and filter twice just to be safe

Yeah that sucks. New trans and all. I am not saying it is busted, but sounds like what mine just started doing a little bit and it is a old trans. . How high do your trans temps get? I adjusted my tcc lock up tables to only engage at 60mph + for now which helps in town a ton. Maybe it is something small though.

I'm not really sure how hot it's getting I havnt put the gauge on it yet, it's kind of weird on the way to Joliet the other day it quit working right when I left town, but on the way home it never quit working

Do you have an aeroforce or any other way to scan the car? I know the Regals let you monitor the trans temps... do the Grand Prixs not have that option?

If he's got a 5 button DIC then it'll show trans temps.

Ok drove the car to work this morning and tryed that, it is the tcc unlocking that I'm hearing, this morning it worked fine for my 15 mile drive

Droping from Od (.72:1 iirc) to 3rd (1:1 iirc) would make you gor from 1300 rpm at 55 mph to 2800 ish rpm at 55 mph..... The TCC disengaging would be a 300 - 400 rpm difference

Sorry didn't mean OD (4th), I meant TC lockup. So now it never locks (even being commanded to lock all the time....) And after a few miles when the trans gets warm, gears are held longer and won't go into 4th/Od.

yesterday i hardly made it out of town and it wouldnt lock any more, i parked for an hour and drove 20 miles then it unlocked and wouldnt lock again sometimes i can drive 30 or 40 miles and its fine what are things that cause the converter to not lock up after a while it always works at first but stops at some point durring the drive
