Hey DEEZUL, and truck Guys, what tuner for 7.3??

Finally got the old truck running decent, and decided it's time to do the air bags & towing chip.

What do you Guys with a 7.3 like??
A couple of guys suggested TS Performance, a couple cheap diesel chips, but their site is gone??
Bully dog does not do 7.3's.


Nothing crazy, 50-60 HP just for towing.

6 position chip from Swamps diesel, Beans diesel, TS do actually have decent tunes, but if you go with a custom tuner you can choose your tunes...

I run a TS chip but with custom tuning from Tony Wildman... Shift on the fly....

I had a TS in my 7.3 and liked it. Be careful installing it or have someone that knows what they’re doing do it or you’re gonna have a bad time.

Ok, talked to the TS guy and he will trade extreme for a kill switch.

I downloaded the installation flyer and it sounds fairly easy.
They did warn the contacts must be perfectly clean, & both bat's must be removed, but didn't make it sound that difficult.
What issues should I watch out for??
They even listed what sockets were needed for each step.

You have to sand off the sealant on the mother board. But if you sand down to the copper you're screwed.

Well that sucks. Maybe I should look into the programmers like my neighbor has.
He plugs it in, sets which one he wants and unplugs.
I don't need to change on the fly, it will always be on economy or towing.

Buy a hydra comes with free tunes and you can get custom tunes and install them your self without waiting for shipping back and forth pm me if you need a guy to purchase from I'll send you info. Don't do a flash programmer on a 7. 3 and definitely don't do a edge if you like your truck. There is limited market for ts chips now hydra is the way to go.

Btw you will get better fuel economy in the higher hp settings than the economy. If you are mostly towing get a egt and just keep an eye on it

Thanks. Now I'm even more confused.
They say only use the lower 25-40 HP setting for a big trailer like mine???
Why in the frick would I go through all that just for 25 HP??
I was thinking 50-60 would tow better putting it up closer to my other truck??

As long as your egts aren't sky high use whatever tune you like. But even the lower tunes will still run and drive better than stock tunes from 15 years ago

~12,000 lbs and tall 2 car hauler.
The '15 & '17 tow awesome, but they are usually working all summer.
So I'm restoring this old truck as a back up, and want it reliable.

Hydra costly. I figured you wanted efficient and bullet proof.

I have yet to dance with a hydra, but have had my chip burnt by several tuners. My last tuner is making my trans last way longer than it should have in daily and mid range hp tunes.

My buddy convinced me to stop being a pussy and just buy the TS.
Set it for 75 HP and not mess with anything higher.
I'm still going to trade the 140 HP for the kill switch.

With the breaking weather, I had the windows down yesterday and had to smell this beast
DOes a tuner help with the awful smell on these old 7.3's???

Mine is horrible, unbelievable how bad the '95 smells & the '02 doesn't??

No it is absolutely the exhaust.
The fuel is new, the truck is used 4-5 days a week, it goes through the fuel and I just bought $200 yesterday because it was completely empty.
It has always been a stinker since I got it at 75,000.

Nope, just stinks way way more than my '02.
I'm a big A/C guy, and don't have the windows down very often.
Yesterday I did and made me think maybe the new TS tuner will help, so I figured I would ask??

Just wondering, since I have no clue how these tuners work.

Well, if injectors are worn or compression is low, you can get a eyes burning haze.... Tuner really isn't going to help here..
