But the officers typically don't like them. Lot's of head room since it is a tall sedan, but no rear seat room for a perp cage and then perps, as well as space (primarily hiproom) for them in front with all their bulky gear and whatnot. This is why they like the Charger, Caprice and Tahoe. The Caprice of note, has a very long wheelbase making that rear seat area much more useful.

ford is actually selling more explorer interceptors than taurii intercepters, while still having the same overall front dimensions, everything aft of that is more useful.

Having multiple municipal clients as well as police agencies I know all too well what the complaints are of the Ford service vehicles.

The sedan interceptor (Taurus) is mostly complained about it's width. Add in all the radio equipment in the center console, the ticket printer, the MDT terminal (laptop) and it's mount it also makes it impossible to use these vehicles for training, ride alongs or 2 officers per squad. Most of the muni's won't pay to have the equipment trunk mounted which is something alot of manufacturers are bringing to the table now because of the limited space in the sedans. Even with remote mounting the equipment its still tight for most officers with all their gear on.

The Explorers and Tahoes are the favorites, while most officers I speak with prefer the Tahoes. This is because again the room width wise and with adding a cage for detainee's or K'9's don't interfere with the seating position at all.

If you think us car guys are brand fanatics you should make friends with some officers. I have repeatedly suggested moving to the Dodge Charger platforms for all who complain about the cabin size and everyone of them flat out say no way in hell.

I have 2 police agencies who use the chargers, and it solves all the complaints with the exception of cost. Ford and GM give huge discounts whereas Dodge barely gives any at all. Yet all these agencies will still spend double on a Tahoe or Explorer than buy the Dodge sedan. :dunno:
