Christian Bale Set To Play Enzo Ferrari In Michael Mann Biopic

Michael Mann might finally realize his passion project of 15 years. Christian Bale has just agreed to star as Enzo Ferrari in the director's Ferrari biopic. Production is set to start next summer.

The film is said to take place in 1957, a decade after Ferrari started manufacturing cars. That year the Ferrari brand was also a competitor in the Mille Miglia. Alfonso de Portago, who was competing for the company, blew out a tire in an accident that killed him, his co-driver, and nine spectators. Ferrari was later charged for manslaughter.

Christian Bale will no longer be playing the role of Enzo Ferrari in the film of the same name.

Deadline reports that Bale has stepped down due to concerns regarding the amount of weight he'd have to put on to play the Italian automaker.

Spring of this year was just not enough time for Bale to safely put on all that extra weight. Director Michael Mann is looking to now cast a fuller-figured actor to play Ferrari.

Bale's exit isn't slowing production, Deadline says—the project is still on track. Financed by Vendian Entertainment and YooZoo Bliss Film Fund, Enzo Ferrari will start filming in Italy in the summer. The film is written by Troy Kennedy-Martin (Edge of Darkness), and based on Brock Yates's book, "Enzo Ferrari, The Man, the Cars, the Races."

Bale's casting was announced in October. The film takes place during 1957, a "pivotal" year for Ferrari, and tells a "personal story of a passionate man and his sprawling world," which is, at times, "hilarious," and, at others, "devastating."

So...bit of an update....this is happening now.

Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman will now play legendary motor racing driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann's biopic.

Deadline reports the Logan star replaced Christian Bale for the lead role, as Bale developed health issues while putting on weight for the film. Jackman on the other hand, no longer has to worry about getting physically fit to play Wolverine.

Noomi Rapace will star alongside Jackman as his estranged wife Linda. Michael Mann's script for the film will focus on the pair's tense relationship while Ferrari was designing his race cars. The movie takes place in 1957, the most tumultuous period in Ferrari's life as the designer had to put up with failure, success, and death while competing against Maserati.

The biopic doesn't have a release date yet, but production will start sometime in summer 2018.

He has lost a huge amount of weight and put it back on in a short time. That kind of dedication can pay heavily on your body. Im sure now that he is older, he doesnt want to do that anymore.
