im probably closer to reasoning myself into a boat than a sled...

it just sucks when you spend all that money and the thing just winds up sitting and taking up space...

water is going to be in the chain more often than not, and the right amount to use a boat...

snow is going to be non-existent more often than not, and the wrong amount to use most times as well.

Yeah, I've been on this thought train since I was looking at houses. Luckily I traded my quad for two sleds so I can't really complain about having the sleds. Besides, at least I now have a utility trailer for other shit.

Quad and a boat. I'm outties.

I"m done with boats for a while. If I have a new ATV & Sled and a new-ish truck to pull them I'll be set.

I have thought about selling the sled and taking a break for a while but we'll see. I could probably get $10k or so for my 2014 Arctic Cat right now and find something to spend that money on. I've had dirt bikes, ATVs and a RZR 800S within the last few years and thinking that is the where it is at. No chasing snow and just chasing nice days. Hmmmmmmmmm

I was told they allow 60" wide SxS's now. Not sure if that is more northern Wisco or what. It seems anything goes in the UP lol.

Yes. They're pretty much fully accepting of SxS's and have even opened access into Cable, Hayward, Winter, etc... because they finally see the huge potential for revenue in the towns. They live off the snowmobile crowds and someone finally realized they could have that year round if they'd just open up the fucking town with an antiquate trail system.

I've got a current 2014 Sawyer Co. trail map and it has zero SxS restrictions.

I've had a place there for years, and, the past two seasons have been the most important for powersports improvements hands down. Things are changing for the better up there for people like us.

The past two times we've been up there, all the trails we have taken are wide enough for side by sides. They're a bit rocky so I wouldn't recommend a dirt bike.

Frank explained it perfectly. No one cares anymore and ATVs are allowed pretty much anywhere minus MAIN roads. We were in Cable this year tooling around and no one seemed to care.

seemed to care is a FUCK ton different than being legal...

DNR up there do not fuck around and I wouldn't go anywhere up there based off of someone "not seeming to care"

more good sawyer county info for utv/atv's.

Quote:
Where can I ride my ATV in Sawyer County?
1) Seeley Hills Loop: Trailhead is off of Chippewa Trail off Hwy. B - approximately 3 miles east of the junction with 27. It's on the north side of the highway and there is parking available. Another trailhead at Hayward Power Sports, 10 miles east of Hayward on 77. Approximately 50 miles of marked trials extends from the trailhead toward Seeley. For more information, contact the Sawyer County Forestry Department, 10610 Main Street, Suite 100, Hayward, WI 54843 or call 715-634-4846.

2) Dead Horse Trail: For experienced riders seeking a challenge, 56 miles of trail from Loretta north into Ashland County to Clam Lake through the Chequamegon National Forest. Trailheads at Camp Loretta and east of Clam Lake on the north side of Hwy. 77. For more information, contact the Chequamagon National Forest at P.O. Box 896, Hayward, WI 54843 or call 715-634-4821.

3) Flambeau River State Forest: 40 miles of trails through the forest, open May 15 - November 15. Trailheads on County W, 1 mile west of Connors Lake, Tower Hill Road, just north of W and Fisherman's Landing on County M. Contact Flambeau River State Forest at W1613 County Road W, Winter, WI 54896 or call 715-332-5271.

4) Tuscobia Trail: From Birchwood to Park Falls, on an abandoned railroad grade. Camping available halfway along trail at Ojibwa Park. Trail is open from April 15 to November 15, and opens to the Dead Horse Trail north, the Flambeau Trail south. Contact DNR Ranger Station, P.O. Box 187, Winter, WI 54896 or call 715-266-3511. . The townships each have their own rules/laws concerning forest roads which are maintained by the townships. Townships have jurisdiction over maintenance and law enforcement and decide whether the road will be legal for ATV travel, in which case the road must be posted with route signs.

5) City of Hayward: The following streets are open to all-terrain vehicle riding to allow access to businesses in the city. Coming in from the north (Nelson Lake and Smith Lake), riders can travel down Olson Road to Hospital Road, to Havenwood Lane, Guard Street and Minnie Avenue. Other streets open to ATV travel include portions of Beal Avenue, Illinois, Avenue East Second Street, East Fourth Street, the entire length of Fifth Street and Johnson Street, and Railroad Street from Beal to Highway 27.

Riders also can ride Hospital Road west from Olson Road, crossing Highway 27-77 to Company Lake Road. Rock Creek Road also will be open south of Highway B.

The new routes will allow riders to drive from their motel to restaurants and other businesses.

City of Hayward Wisconsin ATV
5) Sawyer County ATV Policy: ATVs are not allowed off road on self-made trails through the timber or lowland areas. ATV's are required to stay on marked ATV trails and forest roads. Closed trails are: The Birkie Trails and marked hunter/walking trails. ATV's are not allowed to travel on snowmobile or other trails that cross privately owned property unless the trails are marked as an ATV trail or the operator has permission from the landowner. Stay on marked ATV trails/routes - just because snowmobiles use certain trails, it does not make it legal for ATV's. If you don't know if the trail is legal, don't use it.

Yep. That's all new verbiage now that they've opened up the town. Let me put it this way... I know the Trail Boss up there, as he's the owner of a resort near my property. He's the one that gave me all of the info on where we could ride in town, etc. as the trail system in the town of hayward was in its infancy when we were up there last.

Any ATV trail can be used by a UTV in Sawyer Co. I also have access to my land VIA a snowmobile trail. It's considered special use, and, I've been legally cleared to ride it to get to my property because I maintain the section of said trail that runs through my property.
