So for anyone interested, I drive a fairly well optioned 2015 Crew Cab w/ 6.5 Ford F-150. It's currently in for service and I got a 2016 XL SuperCab as a loaner. It's a 4x4, same as mine. I will highlight some of the differences between a $52k MSRP truck and a $37k MSRP truck below.
This is equipped with a 3.5L NA V6, making 283hp and 255lb-ft of torque. While not something I'd want to tow more than a small utility trailer with (rated for 7,200lbs from Ford), this engine is actually very nice to drive around town, but I'm thinking it has something to do with the 3.73 rear end ratio (for reference, my EcoBoost has 3.55s). It honestly feels as powerful as the previous 4.6L 3v in the 2009 & 2010 models, just with much better fuel economy. On my drive in from the Frankfort Ford dealership to my office in Oak Brook I returned 21.5mpg over 28.5miles, none of which were highway.
Some of the oddities I noticed were the flip-down center console/seat-back doesn't have a storage compartment like XLT's/Lariat's do. Very strange to me that they'd manufacture two different versions of this. The other strange thing is the lack of an overhead console, leaving just a pair of map lights and a grate for the SYNC microphone. My guess is it has something to do with the higher-end alarm system, some sort of interior motion sensors, and the switch for my Lariat's sliding rear window.
Surprises for an XL with the "Power Equipment Pkg" are that it has a electronic parking brake, auto-headlamps, tow/haul mode & sport mode trans shifting, stability control, trailer sway control, SYNC, cruise control & a power tailgate lock. The other cool thing, after spending some time with Blinkstang's 2010 SuperCab, is the new 15+ SuperCab's rear doors now open 170 degrees compared to last gen's 90ish. Really nifty if you ask me.
All-in-all, I'm not mad about it. It'd make a perfect DD if you just wanted a pickup for the cab size, tossing big items in the bed and the ability to do some work off-road or in bad weather & snowstorms. I'll toss some pics in below, feel free to ask any questions.
