Tuning going well now. We maybe need 2-3 more logs/revisions and it will be dialed.

Sadly since its making so much more power now, it appears the trans is not as intuitive as it was NA. Tuner and I discussing how to get it smooth but also ready to rip when you want heavy or full throttle. There doesnt seem to be a happy medium. The car either wants to lug or rip down 4 gears and absolutely smoke the DRs.

It wasnt this way NA. Not sure if maybe hes just out gunned now as a tuner or whats going on. 01bluesnake 01bluesnake you have an opinion on this? Im about ready to buy an SCT device and give you a ring to see how you can make it drive. Its just so finicky now. Very high strung, not smooth and not very enjoyable to drive normal. It reminds me of the first time I drove the 10R80 coyote and gave that review here. The trans really makes or breaks a cars ability to drive nicely but still be fast.

But for WOT, well I might just put that 3.875 pulley in the drawer for a while when it finally gets here. The car being much more close to done, absolutely obliterates the drag radials from a second and third gear roll. If I hit it with advance track off at 3500+ RPM, its steer for dear life. The car just tried to kill me not 20 minutes ago trying to get a decent WOT pull. Problem with tuning on the street is traction is only available now from like a 4th or 5th gear pull, but that will take me to like 150mph. Or if I try to do a lower gear pull, the car just wants to play spin the mustang. If I switch tuners or do something that needs a retune, its dyno only going forward. This is WAY too dangerous.

But anyway coolant is all sorted out. No more smell and the car seems to be working well over all.

Lemme make this easy I have an SCT from my wrecked car but its tied to 2016 vin. See if thatd work on yours? I dunno if firmware is the same. Id ship it for mail cost if itd work.

01bluesnake 01bluesnake any idea if that firmware covers his 2022?

I thought folks simply work with PBD or Lund Racing for a proven outcome?

Simply state your goal to them, order the parts of a proven recipe, work with a recommended shop and have PBD or Lund finish with their tune.

I went through this a long time ago. I think it can go to SCT and if you pay like $150 or something they will unlock it and update it and send it back. Something like that. And sure let me know what you think it will cost to ship and I'd be happy to take it off your hands. If it wont work for me, I can pay it forward to a buddy of mine with a 17 GT I know that needs a flasher. He wants to work with AED and they also only use SCT. But we can try if you're willing to send it. Thanks by the way.

What pressure are you running, those are solid tires I ran the the same but an 18ā€ with less sidewall, Iā€™d run 18-22psi for the track and street hits
30psi on the street. At the track usually 26 but that was when the car was NA. Although I never had issues with them when I had them on the ZL1 making 740 to the tire at the track at like 22psi.

Iā€™d air them down a bit just for longevity sake, my first set I ran at 30 psi and the middle of the tire was bald after a couple thousand miles, after that I ran them around 25-26 for normal driving and around 20 for pulls l, I had my best luck around 18-20 at the track, Iā€™d run 20 and if it spun air down a psi at a time, if it didnā€™t add a psi or two and send it

For SCT Im sure Drew is awesome - I know his experience and attention to detail. Shaun at AED is also top notch. Hes been quietly solving common coyote tuning problems and setting records since 2011 when they came out. He had a better "ghost cam" tune than lund did for years. I had helped Shaun test several of this tunes on the 2011's back then with my own car. Good guy.

This was the first AED ghost cam tune from over 10 years ago we were testing.

Drew is working with you? The guy is a Saint.

Looking forward to this building working out, but if history repeats itself with ongoing challenges, then a Tesla may be the right direction, Quick and minimizes the mod bug.

No hes not. I've known Drew for over 10 years. Well over. I know hes the mad scientist. hes done builds for so many cars I've seen over the years. I sold some parts to him back then and he did the big TSB for my 09 Shelby when he was still working at Ford.

Hes not tuning my car at the moment, but who knows where this will land with my current guy. My current tuner had my NA E85 car running awesome. But its all different now with the blower on there. TCM settings are all different and its just not running nearly as well. We are working through it. Im logging it how he asks then wait a day or so for a revision. Then I'll get 20 minutes of his time on a call and another revision and then off to log again. Just slow going. But at the end of this if the car is still running like it is now, I might sample another tuner. I know how much smoother it can run and shift. I just hope that can carry over to the whipple version of the car now.

As for Lund, yes if you can actually get JL to do the tune its usually very good. But that doesnt happen anymore. He works on racecar tunes and has a hand full of his phone sex operators doing the corresponding now and making shot in the dark updates. Its the same story now on all the forums. His name gets regurgitated over and over from basically people who never used him. Then the threads and FB posts start after the money has been spent how they did no logs or revisions and the cars idle and run like poop and eventually they stop responding and you as a customer - are fired.

At which point you then do the dumb thing by taking the next regurgitated forum opinion and pay a bunch of money to PBD and get nearly the same if not worse tunes and service. No thanks. I'd go ballistic if I had paid Lund $1000 for a tune not only to NOT get jon lund to actually tune it, but when it runs like shit told the tune is fine and its your car and then fired as a customer. Anyone who pushes back get the same treatment. Its borderline fraud. If you're going to take someone's money and do half the job, then punt them and ignore their pleas for help, its coming back around.

As for tuning, i really avoid remote tuning, but could, we just would just have to play the log game back and forth. For trans tuning, its honestly hit or miss. I get some customers that love the way it drives, then i have some who want me to put it to stock, then others who want the tires to chirp every shift. My tune to me is somewhere closer to a slightly adjusted stock shift pattern and slightly firming shifting during normal driving, but everyone's perception is different. The 10R80 is a goofy trans, which ive said previously. Even going strategy to strategy, from different years with same settings result in different shift feel. What i can say that really helps improve shifting on the 10R80, even 6R80 is dumping the shit fluid Ford uses from the factory. Once these cars get about 25-30k, and heavy use, the stock fluid is pretty smoked. I use a mix of Amsoil ATF and LV when servicing the trans. It is much more thermal stable at around 190-200 temps, it does not break down as fast, and being a nice synthetic, the shifts stay firm, but softer and quicker instead of a bang.

I will make note of that for sure. My car is only at 6k miles so far, but they've been hard miles. I only drive this car to have fun in it. No DDing. And its been down the drag strip probably 20 times at least so far since it was NA.

Who is your current tuner? Is it Wengerd?
Yes.

And speaking of him, he sent me the magic revision today. I told him my concerns and he basically rewrote the entire tune and made a bunch of TCM updates. Did a full write and reset KAM and trans adaptives.

Now this is how the car is supposed to drive. Its basically everything I wanted. Normal mode is like super smooth to the point you dont even feel it shift. He deleted the skip shifts under part throttle, and its just effortless going through the gears when you are just driving normally.

Then in sport/+ its very firm but still very smooth. Nice quick shifts you can actually feel. Then Track/drag is basically tire chirping shifts on demand. Track has the smooth but HARD shifts and drag has the abrupt/very fucking hard shifts. He said drag mode should really be (get this...) for DRAG racing only...lol

He said if I want to have fun on the street, keep it in sport or sport+ and I can either use the paddles or not. And he also added the manual mode auto upshift so I can roll race with it and keep it in manual mode, but anything over 83% throttle it will shift itself but still stay in manual. Thats money to get the car to the gear you want to roll race from, but not have to knock the shifter back in D from S.

He refined the WOT fueling a tad more and if you can believe it, its even more brutal at WOT. I did drop the pressures down on the tires to 26 and they seem to hook in 3rd now very well.

Over all we are pretty much done now. Car does what I want it to in all scenarios, and thats all I can ask for. Im going to miss tonight at the track but I will be back next week for sure. Wengerd is also going to come down for FL2k, and he said we can meet up and he can do some more street tuning on it while hes local if I want, if I have any other concerns. But Im happy. Coolant issue is solved, active exhaust issue is solved and the tuning seems done.

Everyone always raves how the car drives like stock yet has all this power.... Well this drives BETTER than stock. In stock for the trans was completely dumb. Now it seems to make sense in what it does and doesnt do strange gear changes or TC flairs out of nowhere.

I cant wait to get some numbers on this thing. He also said if I do put the 3.875 pulley on, the car should be scaled in the tune to go all the way down to a 3.000 pulley if I wanted. He said still do a log, but the car shouldnt need any changes to step down when Im ready.

Yes, been running that setup since the 6R cars back in 2013.
Whatā€™s your mix 50/50 and what amsoil do you use, Iā€™m due in my truck and wouldnā€™t mind giving that a shot, my circle d converter ate its self last year 2 blocks from home and I just swapped to stock and flushed the trans, itā€™s been fine but I want to change the fluid and filter again before winter

Looking forward to the toon update as today is Friday! Has AED been hired yet?

No, Shaun won't touch this car unless its E85. He hates the high compression with boost on 93oct. I do as well, but not that picky. I guess he don't want to be blamed for an engine failing that was pushed at the limit of what 93oct can handle, cylinder pressure and heat wise.
