There seems to be no stopping Taylor Sheridan. The multi-hyphenate writer, director, producer and actor created Paramount’s breakout hit Yellowstone in 2018 and he hasn’t slowed down since. The darling of Paramount, Sheridan recently extended his multi-year deal with Paramount through 2028 and now has nine (yes, nine!) series on the air or in the works!

Sheridan has not disappointed Paramount or Paramount+. Two of the shows he created for the old-school network’s huge splash into the original streaming content arena, Mayor of Kingstown and Yellowstone prequel series 1883, are bonafide hits for the streamer that have been renewed and extended, respectively.

Paramount+ has also picked up a new Yellowstone prequel series called 1932. Here’s everything we know about the new series.

What Is the Yellowstone prequel 1932 about?

The Yellowstone prequel 1932 follows the Dutton family through another expansion period in U.S. history—the early 1930s and beyond. In the new series, we’ll see the Duttons navigate their way through the Great Depression and the Prohibition era in the United States.

The 1910s had Downton Abbey, the 1920s had Boardwalk Empire and the 1930s will have 1932.

Who’s in the 1932 cast?

The show is still in development so no cast has been announced yet. As far as characters in the series, we’ll see John Dutton Sr. (currently played by Audie Rick in 1883) in the series.

We imagine Taylor Sheridan will guest star at some point. He guest starred on Yellowstone as horse trader Travis Wheatley and on 1883 as cattle rancher Charlie Goodnight. Goodnight is a based on the real Charles Goodnight who was known as “The Father of the Texas Panhandle.”

We can probably also expect to see actor James Jordan appear in some capacity on the show. Jordan has appeared in several of Sheridan’s project including Yellowstone (as livestock agent Steve Hendon), 1883 (as Cookie), and Mayor of Kingstown (as prison guard Ed Simmons).

Considering the star power on Sheridan’s other series, we can’t wait to see who he ropes into his newest show. Check back here for updates!

When does 1932 premiere?

No word yet when 1932 will premiere but we’re hopeful production will start sometime in the latter half of this year. If they do begin production in late 2022, we’ll likely see a mid-to-late 2023 premiere date.

Has 1932 started filming yet?

As far as we know, filming has not yet begun on 1932. The show was only recently announced so it’s unclear if 1932 is still in development or if writing on episodes is already underway.

Where can I watch 1932?

1932 will stream exclusively on Paramount+.

New update:

The series formerly known as 1932 is now being called 1923. This plan to set the series earlier allows the story to encompass the end of WWI and the start of prohibition. The series is set to make its debut on Paramount+ in December. You can check out Paramount's description of 1923 below.

"1923 focuses on the Dutton family's next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana's great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade."

More casting

It was announced on Thursday that Timothy Dalton had joined the cast of 1923, playing a "nefarious" rich man named Donald Whitfield. There's no word just yet how many episodes of 1923 will feature Dalton's character.

Dalton was the fourth actor to play James Bond on screen, starring in two 007 films from 1987-1989. He also stars in HBO Max's Doom Patrol series.
