Wendys DNS points to Akamai both by the root to A record and the www to Akamai CNAME. All located in Dallas. Apparently Akamai has had sever connectivity issues in the Dallas area. So not Wendys fault.

This is basically the DNS flow.

A record to appliance or webserver that does 301 redirect to www.
www points to CNAME that then points to another CNAME that then points to the hosted material's A record.

Very weird way to do it and in the process, many failure points introduced...

One CNAME is probably done by Wendys themselves the other by Akamai.

If Akamai's DNS is fucked you've almost certainly got larger issues to deal with......
