Who knows about Exhaust??

Dumb question here but I have to ask. I have to get my exhaust changed and a res added, the shop asked me if I have SS or normal metal. Its mostly stock besides my Downpipe and headers. Anyone know what I should tell him? I think its normal metal right??

Downpipe and headers could be either, but it sounds like most of what you're having worked is OEM, which would be normal steel.

Regular steel will be magnetic, good stainless won't be.

your oem exhaust tubing is 409 stainless and the mufflers/resonators just steel.

they just wanna charge more for stainless work, its generally harder to cut and requires stainless wire and shielding gas but its not required to weld a stainlesss/reg steel muffler or pipe to it. the weld generally wont rust away before the pipe/res/muff does.
