Lousy week, and the weather is making a lousy weekend. So tonight is a lot of zero fucks given.
Started off by making myself a dark rum mojito using a fairly expensive dark rum (12 years) because I'm out of cheaper stuff, and again, no fucks given. So after that 6 ounces was gone, I switched to what is valid for this thread!

I have discovered that Old Forester has a Single Barrel, Barrel Strength. This was clocking in at 130 proof... and for that, you'd think you couldn't touch it neat, right? Nope! This stuff drinks neat very nicely. Carmel, corn and .. hay or maybe wet grass? for a nose. Oddly, the flavor profile is pretty flat. Might have been the mojito? We'll see after I get a few more ounces down. Adding a little water did nothing besides.... well, water it down. Next pour will be with ice!

After that, assuming I'm not asleep on the loveseat, I think I'm going to have some E.H. Taylor.

I went to Charlotte and Charleston a few weeks. Stopped by Southern Spirits since it's close to where my buddy lives. I saw the Kyle Busch single barrel Rebel and snagged it. Nothing special. Got home and they had it at my local Woodman's :ROFLMAO:. I got the car from the Nascar Hall of Fame. I’m not a big fan but a Bourbon sponsored chevy called to me.

I've tried a few bottles of Rebel, sadly "nothing special" (ie, use it as a mixer) is about as good as it's ever gotten, with one of their offerings being so bad I gave it to a friend that likes to put whiskey in her beer. I was like "here, you like terrible combinations already, this should be perfect for you." I'd take a bottle of Ancient Age over Rebel.

@IDAFC21 I will need to look for that Bank Street. I'm always on the lookout for good, inexpensive mixers.

As an update to the Old Forester Single Barrel, Single Batch, it's flavor profile has remained unusually shallow in subsequent pours. Now, since it's single barrel, this could change dramatically from bottle to bottle, so your mileage may vary. Also they don't do what other Single Barrel bottles do, give key info on which barrel the bottle came from. This will just tell you the warehouse and floor.

For $18, Rebel 100 is a perfect bottle as far as proof and flavor in a sour since I think wheaters go great with citrus. That being said this single barrel isn't great but it was a cool bottle that matches the car. Rebel 10 year is a great pour but probably not worth the price tag. I haven't tried the 6 year yet. All in all Rebel is decent, not great but not a drain pour.
