Well its been years since we bought our 3 panasonic plasmas, and its time to replace the oldest one with something new.

Must be LED, must be 120hz or better true motion or whatever. Atleast 2 HDMI ports and so on. I have been all over, BB.com, tigerdirect and so on. Does anyone where to get real great deals on LED TVs. Preferred local so I can pick it up, but online is also acceptable. Looking to spend around $500ish, so maybe a 42"-47". Nothing USED, but factory refurbished is ok as long as it retains factory warranty. Anyone have the hook up??

This is what I had in mind.

Thanks.

Other than some super low, bargain basement models, pretty much all LEDs are going to be at least 120Hz with 2 HDMI ports. Fry's usually runs some pretty nice deals. I'd also search slickdeals.net to see if any recent deals have been posted. Memorial Day weekend isn't too far away. I'd watch for some good prices for that.

BTW, just so you know, no LCD (LED is still LCD) is going to match a plasma in overall picture quality. Things like LED back-lighting, refresh rates, etc are the manufacturers' attempts to remedy problems inherent to LCDs that are not present with plasmas. If you're used to your Panny plasmas, you may find you're disappointed with the LCDs.

Modern LED TVs seem to be a lot better. I went from a 50" Panasonic plasma to a 55" LG and it looks just as crisp as the plasma without the brightness issues you get with a plasma tv.

I don't think overall crispness was ever the real issue. Motion blur (or "ghosting"), on the other hand, was and still is. The remedy for this (60, 120 or 240hz refresh rates) leaves you with a soap opera, or home camera type effect. The picture ends up looking like those behind the scenes bonus footage features on DVDs/BDs. Some people don't mind it, but I can't stand how that looks. Also, I still don't think that LCDs are as rich in blacks/darks as comparative level plasmas.

Of course, the gaps in the pros and cons between LCD and plasma have shortened considerably over the years, and it also heavily depends on which 2 TVs you're comparing (eg high end LCD will usually look better than a low end plasma, and vice versa), but apples to apples, plasma still can't be rivaled. The only thing that annoys me about new TV models is the fact that you can't buy one with JUST the best picture quality offered by each brand. That's always reserved for the higher end models that automatically come with features I'm not interested in/they're trying to shove down your throat (3D, "smart TV", etc), so you're stuck paying extra for them.

go to Abt and make a deal. They are nice people over there and will usually deal.

Most local places will price match if you find a legit deal. ABT gave me a good price when I bought all new appliances, HH Gregg beat them by $600, and without any proof of the deal I got from HH Gregg gave me, ABT beat it by a little. Consumer Reports ranks ABT as the Number 1 appliance and electronic dealer so give them a shot.
