I've had a 1989 Ford Tempo for coming on five years. Its been out of service for two weeks out of those five years. Those two weeks were due to a succession of temperature related sensor failures (O2, MAP, PIP sensors failed almost simultaneously at -25*F). Except for that, I've only had to replace maintenance and age related parts. Brake work (pads, drums, shoes, rotors, cables/lines, etc.), and suspension work (shocks, springs, struts, torsion bars).

Its also my oldest car, and I've had Chevy and Ford trucks. So much for 'like a rock' and 'built ford tough'.

Aside from the huge reply of 3800's I'm sure this thread will get, I'm curious, what has been your most reliable 'beater'?

Tie ... between my 1987 Monte Carlo LS (now on summer daily driver status) and my current daily/winter beater ... 1979 Caprice Classic sedan.

My 97 GP has 135 no real issues. Son's '00 Regal is at 165 purr's.
Wifes '00 Grand Caravan is at 178k second trans and rebuilt engine. (engine and first trans under warranty though).
I had a 95 GP with 133 when I traded it, it never gave me any problems either.

never did a lower intake gasket on it?

94 grand marquis- 250k miles still goin. tune up oil changes and a new ac pressure switch...and a starter. thats it.

94 trans am 126k- put hids in it. drives like a champ, gets 28mpg...think it needs brakes soon
