my understanding is that it is pretty common in thai to speak matter of factly about people in general, like a teacher will even refer to a student as the fat kid or something and it be pretty normal. not sure how much offense is taken at any level or also how much of this is translation from a thai name or just the name, personally my favorite is the calories one
