Wanted: Nephew needs first car

My 23 yr old nephew is looking to buy his first car. Recently he lived and worked on the North side and relied on public transportation. Got laid off due to COVID and now needs a car to get another job. Budget is $3k. Needs to be automatic and decent mpg. Let me know what you got! Thanks ahead of time!

Open up one of the car sites and look for GMs with 3800s. Cheap with motors that last forever. It's what I would do with a $3K budget.

3800's?? how do you guys even afford gas for those things?? its a horrible first car as far as fuel costs are concerned. Prius for life. I got a ct200 also, both are over 250k miles and running like there's no tomorrow. ct200 still gets over 40mpg. Prius is a bit rougher and gets 30.

There is a Buick Early 2000's I believe great first Car in Durand Illinois for Sale Dont know how Much BUT I believe its Listed on FB Marketplace Its looks really clean I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT and I know a ways from City BUT you never know till you know

My supercharged Park Avenue Ultra got surprisingly good mileage for its size. It took my son years to kill that car. Probably saved his life when he crashed it because of the size and Buick safety features.

I'd definitely try and find a clean 3800. When I had mine, I was getting around 20 in the city and maybe about 26ish on the highway. God I miss that car.

And I probably got 17/26 if I'm remembering right from 15 years ago.

My GT got less MPG than my Regal. Only thing I could attribute was the gear ratio of 3.29 vs 2.93
