Tree guy is here. I Have a huge widow maker limb about 50ft up. This guy is the cheapest I’ve found and charges a flat hourly rate and has the coolest machine I’ve ever seen for tree trimming

I need a guy with one of those to come to my place. Previous owners let trees grow totally out of control and now there are huge ones over the pool and house.

What kind of rates does he charge?
Standardly He is a flat $250 an hour. This took him 2.5 hours so it’s $650. I had estimates of $1500-$2200 to cut this limb.

Here is the broken section.

I swear the estimates for tree shit are just random.. had a company break down his estimate and it was nickel and dime BS. Others are basing it off height, risk, per machine and distance from the shop. All kinds of shit. I kinda dig the hourly.

Called a place with a similar machine and they came out Friday afternoon to give me an estimate. 8 trees and 3 big limbs = 2 days and $4K. Previous owners let the trees take over and one 80 year oak is right over the swimming pool and has to go. Original estimate was $6K and 3 days but took one huge one off the table that will just need some limbs removed. Guy told me one of those machines is $200K… Seems high to me.

This guy I used said he paid $150k for his machine. His crew is 3-4 guys.

If you break down your estimate assuming 8 hour days it’s $250 an hour. Same as the guy I used.

So my house is 3/4 of an acre. Bought it in July 2021. We Had 10 very large old trees and several 10’ tall leftover stumps that the previous owner left I guess to save money. The complete trees were 1 red maple, 2 other huge maples, 5 cottonwoods, 2 ash trees. All of them 50-80ft tall. We knew going into it that at least 2 of them had to be cut down. Estimates were all $5-8k to trim/cut them down and remove them. Ended up saving a shit ton of money by having a guy cut them down but not remove them but it Made a shit ton of work for me. Cost was $2500 from a small 2 man crew climber.

Pictures of the carnage..

Took months to clear it out. I bought a Ryobi 40v chainsaw and an electric log splitter. I have a shit load of firewood wood now and a bunch still laying in the yard that is too big to move. I’m not sure if want to do this again but it was an amazing workout. I trimmed down and gained a shit load of muscle. Lol

From the looks of it we have easily 3-4X that amount of wood. Guy is leaving all the big stuff in a pile but will take the limbs and chip them. I want to see if he can do it here and leave us a big pile of mulch. Makes me feel good about the quote they gave me but I did tell him one of the days I will pitch in and cut logs and move some shit with them which will make my life easier too.

I chose not to chip any of the limbs. Mchenry does a limb pickup 2x a year. I lined the entire back yard with limbs. Around 200’ and most of the 100’ front yard. I called Mchenry a couple times to confirm that was okay because I had an excessive amount of them but they took them all.

One thing that is hard to show in these pictures is the size of some of these. Most of the logs are all 30-40” diameter. The old ash trees from the front are 200lb logs and they are only 18-20” long. I was using a splitting axe and a couple metal wedges to get them small enough to even move and still have a shit ton more laying out there. I’ve had a few people want them but when they show up and see the size they all like.. nope. ?
