Holy fooking garage! I’m jealous and obviously in the wrong line of work.

Question, with the plow attached how far does it stick out from the winch/frame? It’ll give me a good idea of what a universal one will be like on my Kodiak.

Lol, move To St Louis where you can get more for less and don’t go on vacations. :)

Are you talking from the front of the plow to the front of the ATV?

Yeah, just trying to gauge how far it will stick out from the front of mine. I expect it would be with a few inches on average. Would require some aggressive levels of Tetris and Jenga to arrange my garage to get it to fit. A quick release would help.

If you can find a quick release you can stand it upright (face of plow on ground) to save space. From the front of my bike to the front of the plow is between 20”-21”.

Excellent. I’ll still have a few inches to spare then. It’s either a plow blade and play in the snow, or snowblower like the rest of the neighborhood.

Thank you for the measurements

SpeedSpeak2me SpeedSpeak2me I can measure my setup on my Kodiak if you want. I have the plow deal from Yamaha, and it is pretty quick to put on and off. There are two pins on the plow side, and the cable. The stock winch cable is meant to thread though a pulley (that attaches with a quick pin) and then hook to a strap on the front. I have a snow plow cable for the winch that I believe pins into the plow instead of looping around. If that is how it goes (I am 99% sure) then it would all go on and off really quick.

Broke EF Broke EF , yeah, that would be great if you take the measurements. I took another look at Yamaha's accessory website but they only go back a few years for the Kodiak, like to 2015. I would expect that the frame itself can't have changed much since 2003, but you never know. I'd hate to order the Yamaha branded one and find out it doesn't bolt in correctly. I suppose I can try reaching someone at Yamaha to find out if it in fact would work. Otherwise it'd be an aftermarket one, maybe from RockyMountainAtv, which has some 48" and 50" versions, all with universal mounting plates. I'm not overly concerned about that, just the bracket length that extends out and includes the plow.

I do like that idea of the snow plow cable instead of the stock cable for quick release.

Watch, go through all this work and we get one snowfall that actually would warrant using the plow to clear the driveways and the walks, LOL.

Ill try and get it mounted and get measurements/pics today. Maybe that will also get me to change the cable and sort that out before I actually need to use the plow. I cant imagine the frames have changed much, but who knows. I would think the dealer I have worked with (Cyclecraft in Woodstock) would be honest with you about that. They have been around a long time and its a small family place. Just an idea anyway.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say, and how much the package costs through them (minus the winch). I have a local Yamaha dealer (DuPage Honda/Yamaha) that I wouldn't trust adding air to a tire. Their sales and service personnel have ego's that make their heads swell so huge if they wanted to change their mind it'd take them three days. I've done business with them on two prior occasions and refuse to go back, even for something simple like hypoid gear oil.

I use this website for all kinds of cross referencing and information. But I can tell you a 2003 vs 2016+ Kodiak frame has nothing in common.

And that looks to be the case:

2016 Kodiak: https://www.babbittsonline.com/oemparts/a/yam/5592c8ba87a866083c4aa76b/frame

2003 Kodiak: https://www.babbittsonline.com/oemparts/a/yam/50038fb9f870021f60a0ca6a/frame

Well it sounds like you may be SOL on a new one fitting your machine, but I'd call em and talk with them. I know all about Dupage...

I agree. There are enough substantial changes that I would not expect nor risk a newer model bolting up to it. I'll still give Cycle Craft a call to see what they say. DuPage will tell me "yes, one for a new model will work", then I'll order it and it won't fit, then they won't take it back because it's been opened. Seriously, they can go pound sand. I'm amazed they're even in business still. Just that they're they only Honda/Yamaha in the area since B&B closed in Elgin. Lombard Kaw/Suzuki closed years ago as well. Very few options in the western burbs to go to now.

SpeedSpeak2me SpeedSpeak2me, neighbor has a Tusk & I have a KFI. Both work well, as they're heavy, steel plows so they scrape pretty well. Both companies should support older, 00's ATVs without issue.
Excellent, thank you for the info. Tusk is one of the brands I was looking at.

It would be nice when all the neighbors are pulling out their 16” single stage blowers and I start rocking a 450 with a four foot plow, lol.

I would recommend Highlands Yamaha.

Hammertime Sports is also out in Belvidere.

PANDA PANDA Highlands isn't too far away, I'm in Carol Stream. Could make a run there this weekend and talk shop in person. Seem to get better answers that way. Thank you for the recommendation.

And yeah, same sentiments on DuPage. A friend of a co-worker used to be a master mechanic there and even he said he wouldn't bring his stuff there to be worked on.

Years ago my dad brought his year or so old Yamaha snowmobile in for warranty work. It wouldn't start. Dupage ended up replacing some computer I think. We picked up the sled and took it all the way up north to Mercer WI and unloaded it. The sled started with no issues but it ginded when it moved. We took it to a local snowmobile dealer in the area. Guy said something was "brown up" in the chain case but didn't have any parts to fix it. He thinks Dupage might have been jumping the sled and not staying on the throttle so when the sled came down all the studs caught the ground and ripped apart the chain chase. We didn't ride at all and went right back down to IL. We went over to Dupage and sure enough there was a little 3-4ft mound in the back with snowmobile tracks heading at it. My dad obviously blamed Dupage for the issue as the sled had no issue before and he questioned why they would even need to ride it when it was brought in for a starting issue. I am really not sure if Dupage owned up to it or even fixed it. They fucked us another way also before that. I want to say it was parts related.

I have only used them for service once but have bought alot of parts over the years from them. They also goto the Milwaukee snowmobile show and regularly sponsor in the snowmobile community. A friend of mine has been using them for sales, service, parts since the early 90's and won't go anywhere else.

I took a cruiser there for new tires. It got the sunshine treatment for a week. They tried to claim otherwise, but it's really hard for them to dispute it when I passed by their dealer 4x a day going to/from work (and lunch) and would just see the bike sitting there. What really pissed me off is when it was pouring rain and mine was one of the few non-Honda/Yamaha vehicles sitting outside, while almost everything was inside. When they tried to argue I told them I drove past not two minutes ago and saw it, and that I'd be back in a few hours to pick it up and take it somewhere else that was capable of changing two fucking tires. Took it to B&B and it was done in 40 minutes while I waited.

It is really hard to find a place you can be confident in. And yeah, the snow show is a fun event to go to. Bought a lot of gear up there even though I don't own a sled, LOL. Hopefully that'll change in the next year.

I'm familiar with Mercer, stayed at the Great Northern hotel, and the Wolf's Den has excellent burgers. One year we were going to ride down to Little Bohemian to meet some friends for dinner. They were driving up, and on their way to the Great Northern for the weekend. We were fairly low on fuel but knew we could make it there and back. No idea how we did it, but we missed the turn for the restaurant. It was like 10pm, middle of nowhere and four sleds running on fumes. We ended up on the Northern edge of Lac Du Flambeau, hahahaha. Rode across the lake to the BP across from Lake of the Torches Resort Casino. Since we finally had cell reception we called the parties that were waiting for us, whom were very seasoned sledders. The amount of shit they gave our lead was monumental, who had also been coming up there for years. We ended up at some other restaurant on the way home. That was a fun trip.

I even mentioned before we left to tank up first, as you never pass up an opportunity like that. But we were pressed for time and wanted to get there long enough prior to closing as to not piss them off. The next year my buddy's GPS took us some back-ass way up to Phelps (Twin Lakes) and no cell reception and running on fumes in his truck. We had passed at least half-a-dozen gas stations and at each one I looked at the fuel gauge and said, "shouldn't we stop and top off?", noticing it was after midnight and less and less places would be open. Nahhhhh, plenty of gas. Yeah, 15-20 minutes of a low-fuel light pulling a two place, with three people in the truck and all the gear. 26 gallon gas tank, put in just over 25 gallons. Was thinking we'd be busting out the jerry cans from the trailer to put in the truck, only to learn the jerry cans were empty. Good times. If it hadn't happened, I wouldn't have the fun stories to tell, right?

SpeedSpeak2me SpeedSpeak2me Took longer than expected, but I put it on last night and also changed out the cable for the winch. New one lifts a lot higher, and looks better since its attached right to the plow.

Maybe I will get a chance to try this out when I get home tonight?! There wasn't much snow on my driveway this morning. Seemed like it was mostly being blown off, and the areas it stuck there was not enough to bother with. If you want any other measurements or pics just let me know.

Much appreciation for the info and the measurements. I have 22" from the front of the plow to the wall, so this would just fit. However I can gain a few more inches by re-positioning some items behind the ATV to gain about 5-6". A one car garage just isn't big enough for three motorcycles and the ATV. Still not a valid enough reason to lose any of the toys.
