🔧 BUILD The seemingly never ending LSA GTO project.

General Information

First some background.
THIS is my 2004 GTO. I bought it in 2017, did a few mods and it's been great over the years. At the end of last year I decided it was too slow and I wanted boost. In preparation for a blower (still don't have it), I ordered new motor mounts for clearance and because I did that I got a poly trans mount too. Also decided to do a monster clutch and new exhaust.

While it was apart I kept finding issues which slowed me down, bad parts, "while you're in there" things too. Get it together only to discover the new rear main seal cover was manufactured poorly and leaked. Took it all apart again and fixed that which started to get frustrating to say the least.

Now it's back together and it had a misfire that was caused by a bad injector o ring. I got that cleared up but now it's shaking a lot which I was thinking was still a misfire but after having a friend drive it I'm persuaded to think that the mounts are causing it or maybe even the driveshaft angle since I have shorter mounts, although it also shakes when not in gear while stopped. I'm wondering if there's an issue with the car or if the poly mounts increased vibrations much more than I was hoping for.

Did an autocross today, was good to actually rag on the car a bit. It can turn more by using the throttle now. Placed last out of 7 in my class which didn't surprise me with the class I wound up in. Overall my average was near the middle out of 160 cars total.

I noticed the sway bar links were making noise on power tour when I had to drive in the grass and now they have left the chat after 5 hard runs. Gonna order some this week.

Yeah it's a pretty big improvement. I like how the whole clear section seems to light up when either the turn signal or the reverse light is on. Might be because of the LED bulbs.

I have no idea what bulbs are in my reverse lights, but they've been there ever since I bought the car all the way back in in aught 8, and they still haven't burnt out and they are BRIGHT as hell. Really makes reversing at night nice, especially w/ the tinted windows.

I think it depends on color. Silver, Blue and red they look great on. Some of the other colors, not so much.

It's been interesting this week. Finally got a purge valve back on so it doesn't smell like fuel any more, but it's never that easy. I lost a couple exhaust hangers and the whole thing was dragging. Not badly but it still had to be fixed. Fixed that but while I was under there I saw the pinion seal leaking. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Ordered a new one so I get to do that this weekend.

Since you did the driveshaft, did you remove the nut holding the companion flange to the diff input shaft? If so, it may just need some additional grunt on the nut. Mine did the same after I changed to a U-Joint, and I gave it a little extra torque and no leak since.

Yea, I guess it doesn't hurt. I was just thinking if you were in there to do the shaft and undid the nut on the flange, it could be that simple.

After usps sent my seal from New York to Detroit to New Jersey and then to me making it days late, I got it changed out. It's not leaking anymore so that's good.

Then this happened, caught a pothole that was hard to see and messed up one of the wheels already. It didn't hurt the balance so I'll have to try and get it fixed over winter.

Sometimes I think this car hates me. I kept smelling coolant and I couldn't figure it out. Turns out it was the coolant for the supercharger. I topped it off with water and ran the pump till I found the leak. Fixed the leak and went to drain the water, and the aluminum bolt that is the drain plug snapped off. Must have been cross threaded from the manufacturer. So had to tear it apart, drill out the broken part and re tap the hole. Got it back together and filled it with pink Audi coolant so not only it looks different but it smells different, should there be any future leaks.

Then I go for a drive yesterday on some back roads and everything was cool until I got on the freeway to go back home and a massive vibration developed over 55mph. Limped it home and somehow the driveshaft bolts had worked them selves loose. Retorqued them with red loctite and so far so good. Going to have to check them weekly and make sure they're good.

It's got probably at least 1000 miles to do next week between the Holden cookout in Indy and the LS fest in Kentucky. It just needs to stay together a bit longer.

There is a group from here heading to the Indy bash.

Would love to do, but too much to get done, not enough time.
