That looks amazing. It's probably a bit more aerodynamic too!

Thanks Matt! I need all of the help I can get in the aero department

Looks great Jim?
You better keep a close eye on her as the thugs got her sister from Phillips a couple of days ago. ?

Phillips Chevy 5/25/21

Thanks Jeff, she stays garaged all of the time with the exception of me being out and about. I guess someone would have to be actively following me or casing me/my car. I think the fact that my car is manual helps too. I am not suggesting my car can't be stolen, but I think these idiots are looking for areas of opportunity with least chance of being caught.

Considering that these guys are focusing on specific high end Dodge products, it seems like it would be fairly easy to get them with a bait car at a dealership they haven’t hit yet. Not saying it’s all the same guys, but I have heard there was a specific crew getting a lot of them.

The great asteroid of 2021 that landed on my hood needed to be addressed. Initial plan was to buy a Demon hood since I love the look. I placed an order with Tasca parts using a VIN off of a eBay listing for a Demon in Cary, IL. If you don’t know, Dodge…Chrylser…..Stellantis…whatever the fuck they are called makes ordering Demon parts very difficult. They want to keep the Demon exclusive to only Demon owners, hence them wanting more detail when ordering Demon parts. Order went through and I got an email confirmation which I was excited about but not confident. I patiently waited for a shipping confirmation order get the next few days, but instead I received a call from a nice lady over at Tasca asking for proof of ownership. I was straight up with her and said I wasn’t a Demon owner but I wanted the hood. I asked her if there were any work arounds and unfortunately she said no. Ultimately the order got canceled and I got my money back.

Back to the drawing board, Anderson Composite Demon hoods are like almost $2K so that is a nope, I don’t like the Red Eye dual snorkel hood, and there really are no other good options. I finally landed on wrapping the hood. So the plan would be to touch up/level the asteroid hit and then tackle wrapping the hood myself. I started off lightly sanding down the impact area/edges of the impact with 400 grit sandpaper, and finished up by cleaning up the area with an acetone/water mix. Using the touch up paint that I got from Royal Coach I went ahead and carefully dabbed paint into the deep scratches, going a little heavy on the paint knowing I would level it off later. I let the paint dry overnight and then went on to wet sanding. I picked up some 800 grit, 1000 grit, and 3000 grit sandpaper from the auto parts store. I used this paper in conjunction with a small pink eraser as a backer for the sanding, cutting out little strips of paper. I sprayed some quick detailer down on the area pretty liberally and went to town, working from 800 to 3000. This is the first time I have done anything like this and was very surprised it level off the paint very well.

Because I am wrapping the hood I have to remove the ceramic coating, I then proceeded to tape off the hood and polish everything out. I got about 95% of the wet sanding marks out of the paint with the Urofiber pad and 3D1 polish. I wasn't going for perfect since wrap is going over the hood, but I am impressed none the less and feel very confident in this process moving forward. I would just need a slightly more aggressive polish. Scratches are very hard to see now!

I would have been stressing doing that. I have lots of little nicks I need to start taking care of.
Also, you should be able to wrap over the ceramic coat without a problem.

Some test pieces of vinyl stuck really well, but I didn't want to chance it.

The only car I was looking forward to see going up on a carvana transporter is still holding strong.... Hmm

1500 or 2000 would have helped to refine the 1000 but it can be polished out with a rotary and wool pad.
If you ever get to that point, let me know and I will bring the Nano iBrod over and knock it out.

Wasn't going for perfection here and the auto parts store didn't more grits in between. But noted, thanks Gav!

That came out really damn well.

Are you still going to wrap it after seeing the results?

Thanks dude, yup still wrapping it. Haven't made it to that part of the story yet :ROFLMAO:

So onto the wrap......I started off by watching a video from this wrap guy on YouTube. He did a specific Hellcat hood wrap and it looked super easy, I am pretty handy so I figured I would knock this out on my own. I went onto Metrostyling and ordered up some basic tools (knife, magnets, wrap glove, squeegee) and some Avery Dennison SW900 Satin Black Vinyl Wrap 5' x 6'. Shit came in and I started out, I got the wrap rolled out onto the hood of the car.
