I tried to do this cheap, $280 isn't terrible. There's a rustler brushed 4x4 that only does like 20mph and the 4x4 VXL is $430
so 2wd it is

Maybe it's just because I was a dumb kid, but I couldn't get that thing to top speed for the life of me. IIRC it was 52mph (practically unheard of at the time for an out of the box car) but even on perfect pavement, every time it hit 2nd gear it broke all 4 tires loose and spun
Yeah I had some stupid Nitro RC’s. Soo much fun. Favorite was the 1/8 scale buggy Kyosho Kanai II and III that I beat the snot out of and raced. Even did a few races on the pro series but was never that competitive. Lol. Also the big Tamiya based Clod based crawlers and more scale realistic monster trucks were fun.

I just wanna say this rustler is sick AF. I truly do not know how people can get it to top speed though, I've nailed the throttle from prob 45-50mph and it will still loop if you don't get out of it quick
My 3yo can actually use it just fine even with the 3s Lipo battery in it, i just make him keep it in the grass and he knows to stay light on the trigger. I ordered a lower power battery just for him though
the in laws street ends with a big grass area that doesn't have a curb, perfect runoff area for high speed runs

big power Off road RCs require finesse to get them to top speed. Even then it may not be possible. I’d try to add a small wing on the hood or front to keep it stable especially since it’s flipping backwards.
I put my draggy on the my stampede and hit 46.3 mph and it was hard to keep the front tires down and u eventually run out of real estate.
