The premise of this TV adaptation of The Boys is set, "in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame and revolves around a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty."

The main appeal of the comic was seeing what are essentially blue-collar workers take on the power and celebrity of major public figures (in this case, superheroes), adding a sort of class warfare thematic subtext that's unique in the superhero genre. The fact that it comes from Preacher creator Garth Ennis also means that plenty of in-your-face sex, violence, and generally demented oddity is also part of the mix.

The Boys stars Karl Urban and Jack Quaid in the lead roles of "The Boys" leader Billy Butcher and new recruit Hughie Campbell (respectively). Also in the ensemble cast are Jennifer Esposito (The Affair), Elisabeth Shue (CSI), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) Anthony Starr (Banshee), Dominique McElligott (Hell On Wheels), Jesse Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), Chance Crawford (Gossip Girl), Laz Alonso (Fast & Furious), Tomer Kapon, Nathan Mitchell, and Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones).

I'm a bit lost when it comes to Butcher and his health, it seems to come and go.

Did letting his super-powers out temporarily revive him? So, like all he has to do is use his powers and then he's Ok for a while? I really don't understand the fluctuation in his health. He looked pretty damn healthy at the end.

Kessle flat out told him that if he didn't use the virus, he wouldn't save him. So the V 'd-up tumor/parasite can heal him. So, when Butcher decides to kill Nueman, it makes him better so he can take her out.

Also, Neuman wasn't phased by Homelander's eye lazers. We know she has impenetrable skin. Yet the parasite in Butcher tore her apart with ease. So it seems Butcher's parasite is pretty capable.

I agree that it was a good episode. The next season should be interesting.

Yeah, that felt a little inconsistent to me. She can take a laser without a scratch, but Butcher's tentacles were strong enough to grab, hold, and rip her apart with ease? I don't know I even recall seeing her attempt to pop his brain, not saying she didn't try, but they didn't show her eyes go all cloudy like she was using her powers. Well, maybe they did, need to re-watch the scene.
Looks like his tentacles covered her eyes from the start, not sure if she needs to see to use her powers of popping. Either way, she was slow to react to him grabbing her.

Is Kessler the parasite communicating? How did Butcher get the parasite? Also too bad the kid shows no remorse about killing Grace. I missed the Soldier Boy visual, what scene was that?
He's seeing Kessler and his wife, so it's something tapping into his brain/memories.

Solider Boy scene was about 10 seconds after the first credits started rolling.

I'd also agree that his humanity is all over the place, kind of just wherever the writers feel like it should be at any moment.

Back in the farmhouse episode, the rabbit had the same kind of tentacles. So maybe Compound V can give the person powers or other things living in their bodies. Tapeworm, bacteria, or what not.

Temp V gave him cancer. Maybe the Compound V gave the cancer superpowers? And it is now the worm running around in him? Kessler even mentions once or twice "V'd up cancer" in him. So maybe.

Ryan just found out that his Dad raped his mother, Grace and Butcher kept the truth from him, his Dad wants to use him as a weapon, and now Grace and Butcher want to use him as a weapon to kill his own dad. So ya, he's mad in the moment. Will him killing Grace come back to haunt him later and bring him to side with Butcher?
