I took my parents out to see this one crummy day. Austin Butler plays the responsibility-dodging, wild at heart, Benny in a way reminiscent of James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause. He does well with it. Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, and others also put on great performances.
Overall it was a good movie. I expected more character development of Benny as much of the advertising and media was based around him. But I don't feel there was any story arc there. But giving other members of the club screen time was worth having it less about Benny. I feel this would have made a much better series than a movie. I feel like they could have developed characters more and with several years that this movie took place they surely would have had more stories to tell.
It is based on a book where the author interviewed, photographed, and rode with the club for several years. It uses Benny's wife, Kathy as the protagonist. So she gets a lot of screen time. She does well but her Chicago accent was annoying to me. haha
The movie is just about what you would expect it to be. How guys with similar interests come together and as time goes on you see the dynamic of the club change. If you don't catch it in the show, I'd recommend streaming it.
