Aston Martin is really a mid-engine car company now. It's doing mid-engine hypercars, with both the Valkyrie and the just-revealed AM-RB 003. Now, it's getting into the mid-engine supercar business, too. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show today, Aston surprised everyone with the Vanquish Vision Concept, a preview of what will be the brand's first mid-engine production performance car.

Yes, the Vanquish name is coming back, attached to a supercar that will be laser-aimed at Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren. It arrives in production form in 2022. Unlike the Valkyrie and AM-RB 003, the Vanquish won't use a carbon-fiber chassis, instead built on a bonded aluminum structure. It will, however, share its V-6 with the AM-RB 003, though the Vanquish won't use the same hybrid system, and may not be a hybrid at all.

It's also quite beautiful. In a press release, Aston Martin design director Miles Nurnberger said that the automaker tried to make something more traditionally pretty, compared to the functional, severe shape of the Valkyrie and the AM-RB 003.

We'll have to wait until 2022 for the new Vanquish, but we've got a feeling it'll be well worth it. The supercar establishment would be wise to prepare itself.
