Watching out the windshield as the lane is ending and my Cybertruck isn't moving... hmm, if only I could do something to prevent this accident. Meh, oh shit, I...no, IT hit a pole. FFS Elon, why would you assume I'd grab the wheel or hit the brake to potentially avoid a collision, as I was obviously paying attention that there was no one in the left lane.

Self driving means it drives itself. That’s the point. People who drive their own cars constantly hit shit without an expectation that the car will properly avoid an accident.

So a "self driving" car shouldn't even have a steering wheel then, according to this logic.

So planes have auto-pilot but still require a pilot to react to anything that happens that isn't supposed to. So, shouldn't the driver be reasonably responsible to take over in an emergency?
Didn’t realize a merging lane would be considered an emergency. 🤣🤣🤣

Merging lanes isn’t an emergency, until the owner of the vehicle can’t be bothered to be in control of the vehicle and it slams into a stationary object that it didn’t even detect.

It really is baffling to me how some of these crashes occur on autopilot. Mine has never done anything absolutely batshit like randomly veering off the road, but there are times where the road is especially complex and it’ll change lanes unnecessarily or in a way as to where it couldn’t possibly make an upcoming turn. Otherwise I regularly drive to work without touching the steering wheel or pedals. Granted I’m not in a dense city, but it’s still really impressive
