Had our anniversary dinner at Little Bohemia too. I’d like to get a couple year old sled and ride some. My dad and my uncles used to go a lot and I’ve ridden out of necessity snowed in a couple years ago on a 20+ year old Indy 700 but nothing besides that.
Everyone should be forced to ride something like that before a "new" something.

Like what you said or a 670 twin two stroke skidoo without reverse or electric start.

Maybe even be nice and give em grip warmers.

Tell em they need 500+ miles put in on one of these. At least one break down, one carbide change, one trail side spark plug swap and one mid lake belt change.

And one time getting stuck. THEN you get to experience a rider forward sled.

Phazers are great old sleds. Reliable and fun to ride. They have a following with guys who mod them and install longer tracks and shit. Youtube Phazer Gang if you are bored.

I found a guy with a modded mountain phazer older than our phazer II but the rest of the results were for a rap group. This then got me going down a rabbit hole of “can a 137” track trail sled handle a moderate amount of powder” and whether or not I’d be better off with a trail sled or a crossover. Mostly concerned with could a dedicated trail sled cut a path through 2 feet of snow on our driveway from the house to get to the gravel road. Been doing it for years on even shorter tracked antiques so I’m assuming the answer is yes. By no means in the market to buy this season especially with the garage space turf war we have going on with my uncle, but I am intrigued.

Not really sure what this is about...View attachment 70052

That is insane. That’s really the way I navigate. If you know where the bars are you can just use those signs to figure out where you’re going.

You should have no issue with 2ft of snow with anything modern. Hell I've taken my 340 Enticer through 2ft of powder with no issues. Just don't stop, that's when you could get stuck if it starts digging. 136's were "mountain sleds" in the 90's. But even the shortest tracks of today are 129ish, and cross-overs are 137-144 IMO. There is no specific sled that is the best in all conditions. My advice is keep riding that Phazer unless you get really into snowmobiling and want something newer.

I’d like to go up there during the week in winter and ride but with a new baby on the way I don’t see that happening this year and especially next year. Just a rabbit hole I went down, then read a few snowtrax reviews and began seriously questioning hypothetical purchases .

My dad is trying to buy the cabin next door to our main place and build a small pole barn on that property and have his own retirement spot. If that happens then me and my brother could buy whatever and not worry about where to keep it. We have a detached 2.5 car garage now at the main house with a Lund fishing boat, some sort of outboard Searay, two sleds, an ATV trailer and a wave runner shoehorned into it. We literally have zero space left.

Mercer and Iron county are very nice. Awesome snowmobile and ATV trail system. Property is also cheap(er) than Oneida or Villas County. I try to ride there 1-2 times per year. Only downside is that if you need something that the dollar general does not have you are driving to Minocqua or Ironwood.

My "aunt" lives off Elcho Lake Road. They retired now but she used to drive to chicago every few weeks and work for a few days then come back to Mercer. Her husband still does maintenance at the Casino. They would drop the kids off at school via pontoon boat, sled or atv. 4 car garage, a frame log cabin, property on the lake and river. Nice setup.
