Fishing report: haven’t caught a damn thing the last three outings.

Yesterday I tried wading for the first time. Definitely a way more fun way to shore fish. You can get away from the trees and get to a ton of spots otherwise unavailable to cast from.

I waded in salt creek below the Graue Mill dam while my mom was getting some outpatient surgery. Managed to get my foot under a tree root, smash the shit out of my shin on a submerged boulder and fall face first into the water. Luckily I caught myself on said boulder so I managed to keep the water intrusion to a good splash over the top of the waders.

Hit up Montgomery dam looking for musky. Snagged two carp on a twitch bait and had what I suspect was a bass hooked up on a glide bait until it got off. Man, what a busy place. There had to be 16 guys there fishing at 2 in the afternoon. Place has to be a madhouse on the weekend.

Got a nice farmers tan and a burnt neck, solid day on the water regardless of fish.

I'm going to have to try waders, tired of trudging through the brush and trees and shit.

I got a kayak to try and get around that, but found it to just be too cumbersome to load and unload, especially if I'm just trying to get out for a few hours after work.

Went back to same spot as yesterday and only caught 2 suckers, hiked 2 miles of River looking for them. Only saw a few adult Steel's, couldn't get them to bite anything. Went to a different River and caught 8 1year old Steelhead and 3 Creek Chubs in a short time which was good action and called it a night. The stocked 1year steelhead are still vicious fighters just like the adults.

Back in the late 80's I was drinking Jack with a friend there...and he just so happened to be fishing too. Caught a 7-8lb walleye. We were both amazed they are still in there. Had no idea that there was Musky there either. I'm so spoiled with fishing in MI, I rarely ever fish around IL anymore.

We have so few big bodies of water around here, anything decent gets pressured and fishing is relatively tough. Shore fishing doesn’t help that situation either. Bass are easy to catch but you can only catch so many 1-2lb fish and stay entertained.
