My Billets were in desperate need of a good polishing. I usually maintain my Billets with Never Dull. But these were beyond what Never Dull could do. Pissed I only took 1 before pic, for some reason I thought I took more.

Washed them last night so they could completely dry overnight. Used the Wolfgang Metallwerks product. Only used 2 of their 3 steps plus the sealant. Didn’t need step 1 as that’s for shit that’s like in bare metal state. Spent about 1hr and 15 minutes on each rim

Did each rim by hand using microfiber with their step 2 Aluminum Polish first. Then did it with my Griots mini polisher with a polishing pad. Followed up with same process using their step 3 Aluminum Concour Polish but used a finishing pad when I hit it with the polisher. Did both the front and backs of the rim. No half ass shit over here lol.
Sealed them by hand

I’m kind of afraid to touch the paint on my new car. Sure, the black mirror caps and trunk spoiler have “love marks” from the porters at the dealership, but the blue body panels looked to be very clean. Will be doing a paint correction and CarPro UK 3.0 ceramic coating next weekend, if the weather holds up. I don’t want to add anymore love marks to it before I’m ready to coat it. LOL.

While at the Chicago Auto Pros meet today I bought some detailing stuff. I came home and cut the grass then washed the wife’s Edge ST.

things I bought at CAP:

And I picked up 10 of these:

I had planned on using all the new stuff on the GTI tonight but I only had time and energy to try the glass coating on the GTI. Applying it is pretty easy. 3 coats on the windshield. It says to do 1 coat on the remaining windows, I opted for 3 on the rear glass but 1 on all the rest including the sunroof glass.

removing is was interesting. The residue release that came with the kit was to be used in a similar manner as the coating, small circles but on small sections only and wiped off immediately. If the residue release isn’t “wet” then it’s impossible to remove the coating. I had to go back multiple times and redo the residue release and wipe. Overall, it worked out and I can’t wait to see how it works.
Pics during the application of the coating and of both

I did run the GTI through a touchless wash this morning and that’s it. I will do a full correction and ceramic coating soon.

So I wanna pick up some new drying towels for the GTI before I polish and ceramic coat it. I have some pretty old but tried and tested edgeless waffle weave towels that are my primary drying towels, but was thinking of picking up new towels, not married to waffle weave for drying.

What's everyone using?

Double twistress from the Rag Company is what I use.
The new gauntlet towel from TRC is popular as well.

I use an Ego blower then follow up with the twistress and bead maker.

Thanks! I was looking at what TRD stuff CarSupplyGuys has in stock while waiting for your reply (LOL) and they don't have either, but that's ok. I work 10 mins away from the Lombard store, I was gonna head there after work tomorrow and pick up a few more things. Hmm

Anything they have in stock that you recommend from TRC? I already bought some 245 edgeless from them last week.

New towels for sure. (y)

Yeah, I didn't do anything when I bought the GLI since it was CPO and had 8k on it with some pre installed dents and scuffs. I used the current stuff on the Edge ST and it was fine, but I figure for this car, before I get started on paint correction, some new towels can't hurt.
