That video is a year or two old but I remember reading one of the passengers broke his back or neck I can’t remember, so on this style boat in rough water the butt part of the front seat drops out and you stand with the backrest hugging your body to hold you in place so your legs take the beating, they are called drop out bolsters, but the back seat is basically just a couch those guys got fucked up

The cigarette is made for that, the guy driving just has no idea what he’s doing, this is one of my favorite old school boat videos skip to around the 5 minute mark or watch the whole thing but these guys get into rolling 8’ sea’s running 60-100mph off and on just out fucking around in a 41’ Apache

Hey, so I'm back from Cali and looking to do some rentals before buying. For rentals I'm seeing a lot of captain required or having to prove experience. I have a little, but I'm also not an idiot. What are my options? I'm only looking to take out a small group too.

A perfect outing would be cruising the river and then a bit of time on the lake.

Downtown Chicago, flexible on harbours

I don't believe anyone rents boats in Downtown Chicago... Plenty of boat-share options but I don't think you can actually rent a boat for the day. I would suggest the Chain O Lakes or Lake Geneva. Especially if you lack experience.

Edit: You can charter a boat, but I believe that includes a captain. You can rent waverunners at 31st or North Ave beach or those tiny boats on the Chicago river.

My sister rented a boat for the day on the Chicago River. No captain needed. It was just a slow party barge, but it was a good time.

yes, you can rent tiny boats on the Chicago River. Usually those semi-enclosed electric boats or 16ft toons with 10HP motors. You are not allowed to take them through the lock.

I guess boat share is the correct term for what I was seeing online so far that required a captain as well. I've done the little pontoon boats on the river before and have seen the electric ones as well. Not bad for just getting on the water.

I'll take a look at Lake Geneva or Chain o Lakes though and see what's out there for rentals. Wanting to spend the summer renting and trying out the boat life to see if buying is worth the time and money later down the road.
