why the fuck would you neutral drop a car.

Because RACE CAR... or more likely the car has soo little power in the low rev range from a mismatched combo the Neutral drop is needed to get it out of the hole. Doesn't matter now because that squaking bearing is a problem. Any metal fake in the oil?

Sounds like you put the cam n backwards..or maybe the pistons are upside down...I put pistons upside down once, car ran great..compression was pretty low though..I would start there if you haven't dug into it yet.

I've come to believe my rocker pivot balls are shot. All kinds of chatter in the rocker boxes. And slight squeak from up top. I tightened vert bolts and changed oil. No metal was seen. So scorched rocker pivot balls? Idles normal now. Can i use needle bearing rockers for replacement? I'm just going to change all the rockers since i did re-use old ones.

No, put a supercharged flathead ford v8 in it and run 9's.
