Cult following to mean that you idiots will defend it with your dying breath no matter what. Again, fuck off with the semantics.

If you take off the rose colored glasses, you'd see the issues.
In T1, you have the concept of this unstoppable man hunting robot that cannot be stopped. They are essentially powerless to fight it and they spend most of the movie on the run. It has an original concept of a hyper-intelligent AI sending a robot back in time to kill the mother of the so-far unborn leader of the resistance. In the end, them doing so created the very person they wanted to kill. It even had a reasonable love story to boot in there. Well written story, original concept, excellent execution.
Now you get into T2.
-Recycled concept (they sent back another robot, this time to kill him when he is a child!), except now they have their very own Terminator on their side! Totally ruins the suspense, since the odds are relatively even.
-The Terminator is the same guy as the bad guy from the first. It's a total plot hole. It of course only makes sense because Arnold is going to draw the crowd.
-Somehow Sarah Conner went from helpless waitress to the biggest badass on the planet - all by herself.
-Cheesy catch phrases: "I'll be back" "Hasta La Vista Baby" etc.
-Basically just action porn.
-Story was no where near the level of well written as the first. At no point were any of the characters in any reasonable amount of danger. Totally unnecessary comedic relief from Arnold (which continued into the rest of the sequels.)
-Universal acclaim typically comes in the form of "that movie is badass"
-Totally ruins the "character destiny" set up in the first one, by "stopping Judgement Day".
Now that I have posted a very nitpicky list of issues with the movie, you probably think, "Wow, Sprayin, you hated this movie, what is wrong with you?" and that is simply not true. I very much enjoyed watching the movie, and I occasionally re-watch it when it is on. But it PALES in comparison to the original in just about every way outside of visual effects - which were spectacular especially considering it's era.

Totally ruins the suspense, since the odds are relatively even. The suspense was which one was doing what the first time you saw it? At least for me. I never saw any trailers for the movie and was actually expecting Arnold to be the bad guy. My little 9 year old mind blew when he says GET DOWN!! Also how is a liquid metal terminator and a T800 the same level? They still spent most of the movie running cause they couldnt stop T1000. Just a better chance of escape since T800 can body block basically.
-The Terminator is the same guy as the bad guy from the first. It's a total plot hole. It of course only makes sense because Arnold is going to draw the crowd. FWIW, Arnold wanted to be the good guy in T1, but Cameron didnt. How is it a plot hole though? He is a machine. Not an AI. Skynet is the AI. Machines can be reprogrammed. Which is what the story was.
-Somehow Sarah Conner went from helpless waitress to the biggest badass on the planet - all by herself.Thats why she had friends in Mexico where she spent her time badassing herself and training. All by herself apparently
-Cheesy catch phrases: "I'll be back" "Hasta La Vista Baby" etc.I mean, its Arnold. Probably didnt need to be there but didnt take anything away I think.
-Basically just action porn. Ill agree it was an action movie. Wont say it was crazy and nothing but action though.
-Story was no where near the level of well written as the first. At no point were any of the characters in any reasonable amount of danger. Totally unnecessary comedic relief from Arnold (which continued into the rest of the sequels.)The story is just adding from the first one. The basic story is covered, but then you look at this kid, who has a rough life and no parents basically cause dad is a dead time traveler and mom is locked up for trying to speak the truth. So when T800 comes its basically the closest thing he has to a father.
-Universal acclaim typically comes in the form of "that movie is badass" So hating because of peoples opinions of the movie? Thats about as shallow as me hating the Beatles because people say they are the reason rock music is what it is today and I cannot stomach that though. Yes, I know its kinda shallow, but its just my opinion.
-Totally ruins the "character destiny" set up in the first one, by "stopping Judgement Day".It obviously doesnt stop it though. In the different sequels we got and this new one with Cameron assistance is basically saying it didnt stop. IIRC even Sarah herself doesnt think its stopped in the end monologue.

Next week needs to be Top Gun or I unsubscribe.
Top Gun is just flat out bad. I probably wouldn't do that one because I've seen it like once and I hated it so much that I doubt I'd watch it again just to make a thread about how much I hate it.
