The Asplundh guys came by today for about 10 minutes, saw how massive the tree was and took off . Still no power, I’m guessing they’ll start on it tomorrow if we don’t get anymore trees down tonight.

I swear this last storm was hunting me. At 5pm I looked at the radar all the way out to IA and it was clear. Figured it was time for a bicycle ride, so drove out to St Charles to ride out to Sycamore. I made frequent stops to clear branches off of the trail so I wouldn’t have to worry about them on the way back if it was dark (it was).

I was just out past Sycamore Speedway and checked radar again. Okay, something developing but it’s way out past Dixon. Plenty of time to ride back.

I’m about 6 miles from STC and through the tree cover it looks like the sky is lighting up. No way it can be that storm. I keep going.

Get about 4.5 miles from STC at Brown Rd and checked radar. OH SHITBALLS!!!

Rode my scrawny ass off trying to cover that 4.5 miles. I get to truck, load the bike and get a few sprinkles. Throw gear in truck, jump in drivers seat. No sooner than I shut the door and started the truck the skies opened up. Had to be about 10 seconds.

Note the time stamp and where the leading cell is:

8:25 at the 4 mile marker looking back west:

This was at 8:49, about two minutes after I was in truck, which was about 1 mile west of Randall on Dean.

btw its run it 1 hour every 4 hours for fridge ideally.

that doesn't really make sense to me

once it's cold in there it'll regulate it's temp pretty well to stay cold

id try to just leave it plugged in if youre running it the whole time if not then yeah i get it

That's for conserving the most gas on your generator while keeping things fresh.

Our status has been updated to “additional crews required”. Think they’ll have the main line up later today.

Picking up branches from my yard this morning. Luckily The city picks up branches and debris after storms from the old neighborhoods with large trees. Just have to bring it to the edge of he road.

edit…. Okay it’s a fuck ton of branches. I love having 8 large trees on the property but man this sucks.

I do not understand the lack of preventative maintenance by the utilities and townships.

Would think a good % of the outages could have been avoided.

I still don’t know what happened with this tree two houses down. It looks healthy in the pictures from when the house was listed for sale back in June.

lightning possibly? There is a tree twice that size that is solid and healthy that was struck in my neighborhood and it’s on the ground split right where the first limbs spread.

Maybe. My neighbor between my house and that house was in his screened in porch when it happened and he doesn’t think so. Tree pulled the power line out of their house and messed up the meter and their ancient panel in the basement.

damn sucks for them but insurance should cover it and it would be a good Time for them to upgrade the service and bury that shit.
