🔧 BUILD Shawns 1971 Impala Donk

Sept 2021 I started seeking out a painter to take on the task of painting this boat. Visited several shops and got several quotes. The 2-3 shops I felt most comfortable with were all withing the same price range +/- a few hundred. So nothing to really sway me one way or the other. In October, I chose Rolandos in Elk Grove as he was recommended by a couple of friends and I really felt the most comfortable with him. I also felt he did the most thorough inspection of my car while quoting it. I knew there would be some unseen shit that increased the cost, but I felt it wouldnt be excessive with him as mentioned he was very thorough. Gave him a deposit and locked it in for Jan 25th 2022

Sat down with Ricky and the painter to talk about what I wanted color wise when I dropped the car off. I knew deep down I wanted some variation of Root Beer. I thought about a candy finish and or a flip flop (changes different variations of the root beer depending how the sun hit it). I ultimately said fuck that, everyone is doing that shit and I wanted to set myself apart from everyone else. There were other reason as well. We looked at a Toyota color which looked really good. So he said we had time and he would spray out some samples and he did. Week or so later I picked up some samples on 2x2 metal sheets. Brought them home let them sit in the sun and shade. Brought them back and I was leaning towards the Toyota color but it had a tint of green in it that bothered me. Ricky said he wasnt painting the car until I was 100% dead set on a color, not kinda sure lol. Told him which of the 4 I liked the best and then he said, would if he added copper flake to it to match the rims. Nothing crazy but something that will definitely pop. He sprayed a sample and knocked it out of the park. So its a metallic root beer with copper flake, when the sun hits it, its fucking insane. Cloudy days it looks like doo doo brown lol.
