Well, I have to turn to my TCG brethren in looking for suggestions for a birthday present for my g/f. Here's why I come to the TCG Collective for what should be a simple task.

She's turning 50, so I would like to get her something out of the ordinary. It doesn't have to be a "50" related item, as she really doesn't care about the number itself. I'm having a serious problem coming up with something creative, which is in part due to degrading medical issue on my side. But that's a topic that has floated around other various threads, and doesn't need to be detailed here.

So, what I am trying to stay away from... Clothing and jewelry. She has wayyyyyyyyyyy the fuck too many clothes as it is now. She could cloth a small nation, and yes she does regularly donate old clothes. I really don't to add to the multiple piles and full closets that already exist. Would like to stay away from jewelry because; one, I just got her some for xmas. Two that can get expensive real quick and I don't make TCG$tacks. Three, she already has a lot of it.

Would like something that can be used and not just be set on a shelf for years to come. I eagerly await the creative (and reasonable) ideas that others can think of, or have done in the past.

Oh, and I have about a week to pull this off.

Buy her pots and pans, can use those for years lol
My Wife's B Day was yesterday. She is very basic and she said she wants to go to the casino on Saturday.
So I gave her a B Day card with $200, had the kids over for dinner and she was very happy with that. So Saturday night we will go out for dinner, and make our once or twice a year visit to the casino.

How about a nice vacation/trip? Is there anywhere she has wanted to go but has never gotten around to doing?

I was actually watching a YouTube Travel Blog person recently who does lots of train trips, and this one looked really cool. It's pricey, plus you have to get to Colorado to start.

2 day rail tour from Denver to Red Rocks. Overnight stop at a hotel

Vacation will cost more than jewelry, he said he doesnt have a lot to spend.
Yeah, I hear you. I'm sure if there's someplace within a days drive that she's always wanted to go, that could be cheap. Weekend in Galena, Springfield, St. Louis, etc.

There's always a day spa for her with a massage and whatnot.

Some more info on what she likes, hobbies, ect would for sure help.

You can never go wrong getting her a really nice version of something she already has and uses regularly or an experience.

Cookware or nice knives are a good one if she cooks a lot. You said you just got her jewelry, does she have a nice box to store it? She has a ton of clothes, maybe a closet organizer? Sounds dumb, but something simple she will use every day and likely not buy herself makes an awesome gift.

As for an experience, it doesn’t have to be a vacation. You could do a cooking or art class together, if she’s into fitness you do a package of classes at a studio.

My pops blew a wad on a robotic vac/mop even though she said she'd kill him if he got her an appliance....

She loves waking up every morning to a clean house...and he's still alive...

Pots and pans, holy fuck does she already have more cookware and bakeware than she could ever use. In order for me to use the oven I have to unload it of bake ware first, cause there is no where else to store it.

And Happy Belated Birthday to the misses.

First thing that pops in my head is a vacation but you just got back from FL

Hmmmmm
Yeah, this one is going to be on the books for a while. Nine days in FL and we didn't go out to eat once, just to keep the expenses down.

Just got back from FL, thread soon to follow. Have a few thousand photos to go through and purge. For the rail tour, would have to get to Denver first, that's a two day drive :D

Good questions... Hobbies - shopping, watching TV on her phone, moving clothes from one pile to another to make it look like she's reducing the piles, but is in fact adding to them with new clothes. Closet organizer, already done, and closets are now full (it's unreal). Jewelry box, also done, as a present last year. Fitness, tried that for the last four years. Claims she "wants to get in better shape", does 20 minutes of yoga once every six months, calls it "making progress"

This would actually be a present for me, as I'm the one that is vacuuming and mopping 99% of the time. Gonna save that as a potential present for me!

So, in stepping away for a moment to clean up a litter box, I actually had an idea. Since I'm trying to find something practical I was thinking of swapping out her headlights with LED bulbs (2019 Honda Fit). But I know there are issues with the DRLs when you do that, so need to look into it. That snowballed into a better idea.

A remote start for the car. We're out in Carol Stream, anyone have a shop they can recommend for something basic? Prefer to not sacrifice a key (if that is still a thing), and only need a few hundred feet of range. Would prefer one with the pitstop feature so she can get out, and take the keys, but leave the car running.

We had one in her old car, and I know she misses having it.

I actually just sent someone with an 03 Silverado to my guy last night. $300 for remote start and keyless. I can ask what the price difference is for hers
