💦 Detailing Scratch repair options

So my new-to-me GTI came with a few 2" or so scratches that looks like Stevie Wonder tried to paint match and touch up with touch up paint...I don't know how deep the scratches. I have had a couple scratches fixed at a body shop over the years, and it was fairly reasonable, price wise.

What other options should I be looking into...I have never really tried this myself, and would hesitate to attempt on this car, and would much rather have try on a beater. People, places, or products I should be looking at?

Not sure, because someone tried to touch-up the scratches...

I'll try to clean it up and grab some pictures...it's filthy from a couple road trips and too much rain.

Gotcha.

There is a good chance some of it can be polished and cleaned up, but, it may or may not require repainting.

Really depends on how bad the scratches are.

Bust out your orbital polisher and some compound and go at it until the scratch is gone....or you need new paint! Sounds like if you polish to the point of needing new paint...you needed new paint anyways.

Can you show him the pictures, and see what he thinks?

I could get that out, that’s going to need a 2000 grit wet sand, and blended. I could show you how to do it. Rest of the paint looks fine. Original scratch probably could have done without the touch up paint and would have come out with buffing
