Sarasota powerboat racing / 2021 & 2023

This weekend here in Sarasota powerboat racing ! Tonight was a “Boats on the block “ event, boats on display, band playing, restaurants open etc… Saturday is test and tune one could say, pits open for everyone to walk thru, Sunday is race day for all the classes and open pits to walk thru.

not sure if I’m going to make the races on Sunday at the moment, as all the good viewing areas are spoken for, and can’t see all that much from the beach. Will see what I can come up with to grab some pics other wise.

We were at Lido Key Beach over the weekend and saw the jet ski races for a while. We did see some of the powerboats cruising the shoreline later in the afternoon. They were crazy loud. We were wondering what was going on at the beach when we pulled up and saw a large police/medical presence in the main parking lot. We had to park pretty far away.

I did not as the weather didn’t look so good later in the day. Had friends on the beach watching and doing a live video.

the world championships are being held a few towns south of me in November, should be easier to view from that location.

Cool stuff! I bet the tow rigs dragging these things were pretty sick too! Always liked watching this kind of racing on TV. I bet the sounds are amazing in person.

Powerboats were towed mostly by bro-dozer style diesel 350’s, the larger boats like the miss gieco were freightliners or similar.
