The end of an era in Japanese sedans is upon us. We've received official word that Nissan Maxima production will end midway through 2023. When the line goes silent, it will mark the end of a 42-year run for Nissan's flagship four-door.

They priced it out of competition from their own lineup. The Altima kicked the Maxima's ass. One less sedan for subprime lenders to cash in on.

Q2, 884 Maximas vs. 40,000 Altimas.

Edit, not to mention a loaded AWD Altima is still less than a base model Maxima.

end of an era indeed, but not surprised. everybody killing off their sedans these days, I guess the world needs more crossovers :dunno:

my favorite Maxima was the 5.5gen 02-03 model, followed by the 95-99 4th gen. '03 was the last generation made in Japan before they dropped the 6 speed and went with those junk CVTs....then the 3rd gen and later Altimas just took off and started outselling the Maxima. The Infiniti G35/7 and Q50 took away a lot of Maxima sales too, 6MT and RWD could be had for not much more.

I had an 02 with the 6-speed. Used to take that thing out to import night at the track and destroy everything.

I think they did sub 6s 0-60, low-mid 14s stock? At the time 255hp for a NA V6 was hauling for a family sedan.
Yeah, they were very quick for the time. My best pass was 14.01 @ 101 MPH, and it was bone stock except for a drop in filter. One night I bolted up the drag radials off of my Mustang to the front so I could try for mid 13's and it wheelhopped so bad on the 1-2 shift that the hood popped, wipers turned on, and I broke 3 motor mounts :ROFLMAO:
