Well reading this thread has me thinking I am not prepared enough for my upcoming trip down south to pick up a car. That doesn't mean I am going to do anything about it though :D
That makes 2 of us lol. I'm thinking I'm prepared and just need some pointers and tips on what else to bring. I'll touch base with eTrailer, but if they tell me I need something north of $500, then I'm just taking my chances, fuck it, send it. I'll drive slower at that point, as I'm not going to spend on something I'll probably use once. The 71 is insured for $75k, it is what it is

Wow Yaj Yak Yaj Yak words hurt :( Its the nicest car I have ever had, but you're right that isnt saying much :) I am concerned stopping on the way home. I was planning on stopping on the way down and the way back, but as I thought about that more I was like maybe we just go for it on the way back.

I just wish I had, and could tow an enclosed. This thing actually has nice paint which is new for me.

Maybe I will get a spare for my trailer at least. I have towed enough to know a WD hitch would be very nice, but I can live without it. I have been looking at the Weigh Safe setup for over a year, maybe this is a good reason to pull the trigger. My current setup is a super cheap 2" drop which isnt really low enough as evidenced by my beat to shit plate on the trailer.

Just pull the trigger on one of the WD hitch setups that Yaj Yak Yaj Yak just posted!

I think you posted up that the trailer was 2,000 pounds roughly (in another thread), I looked up '71 Carpice specs, and you're around 4,000 pounds. I know you have bigger wheels, stereo and such, but I don't think that's adding another 2k to get to 8,000 pounds in total. I would say you're probably closer to 4,500 for the car, 6,500 GTW for car and trailer.

My point being, I think you do have some cushion room in there. It's a bit less than 8k, unless you're hauling lead in the trunk. :D

For some reason, I recall or being closer to 4500lbs on the door sticker when I bought the car.
I'm figuring at least 500lbs between the trunk and wheels brings me to 5000. Trailer might be north of 2000lbs but not by much iirc

Not my VIN, but I just googled PJ 18" steel car trailer weight. Thats how I found it last time I looked as well.

VIN:3CV1H1821P2660457
Floor Length:18' or 216.00"
Width:6' 11" or 83.00"

GVWR:7000 lbs

that's not going to include a spare tire either
