id seriously look into a weight distribution hitch since you're well over 5k lbs especially for that sort of distance.
This. I only towed a handful of times with my truck, but towing with and without a WD hitch, it was incredible how sturdy it was with a WD hitch and how little movement the trailer actually had - even in high crosswinds.

As for the NWI area, there is no escaping all the construction, and the road does get rough, so that is another reason to bring the speeds down. I doubt you'll want to do it, but I've been taking I-57 down to Wilmington Rd, then briefly hopping on IL-50 to County Line Rd, then to IL-1 and heading south. IL-1 turns into IL-17, which then becomes IN-2. Confusing, but if you look on the map it makes sense. From there I hop on US-41 south, then at some point jump on to I-65. If you happen to consider this, IN-10 is closed between 41 and 65, bridge is out.

Thing is, if you're pulling a trailer, might just be less stressful running through the construction gauntlet since it's more straight-forward.

I-65 through Indy is now open, and the interchange is different. Instead of going to the right to catch the I-65 ramp you stay to the left. I-65 south all the way to Louisville is pretty much okay. For I-24 going through TN, yeah, definitely stay to the right, though you might be inconvenienced by tractor-trailers going really slow. Atlanta is going to straight up suck, any time of day or night. I've been through there at 2am and still hit stopped traffic.

Something to consider, you could run I-57 to I-24, then take that to I-75. It avoids the NWI area, and the time/distance added should be negligble.

Just to add to my statement. I haven't been this route (I-57 to I-24) since last December. Construction was minimal, hardly a nuisance, but that was 10+ months ago. YMMV

Bumping this as I'm getting ready to take the 71 down to Orlando in 3 weeks. I have never trailered a car that far and I'm looking for pointers as I'm the type that like to be over prepared. Will be towing with my Wagoneer which can handle 10k lbs (car and trailer are probably 8k tops) and my Wagoneer has the air ride which I'm assuming is better for towing. I have the below hitch which I believe is more than adequate. My trailer is getting brand new tires next week with a higher load range. I store it at my guys tire shop and he recommended I do that. Axels were just greased in May, the brakes were also checked at the same time. I've only used it 3-4 since then. I have a spare tire, I will be bringing a jack, an impact, and basic tools with me. Anything else I should be bringing with me?

Also, my plan is to try and average 80mph as most of my driving will be overnight. Is that doable or should I slow it down a bit? I've done it to GLD and back, but thats 70 miles one way lol. I'm going to run 65 to 24 to 75, if I leave my house at 6pm, will 65 thru @DEEZUZ land still be a shit show, if so what can I do to avoid it? Whats my best approach going thru the mountains in Chattanooga, I vaguely remember driving thru there 20yrs ago and the road sucked. Get in the right lane, go slow and pray lol?

Anything else that I'm missing?

ngl man also id be going the not indy/louisville way...
