I hadn't watched any full videos of pikes peak until I heard about this. There was a lot of hype about the streetfighter v4, so I was following it, then I see news that he crashed and passed away :-(

That is a BUMPY last turn and finish line. Here's a video from another bike, FF to 11:23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i49U2kPszSA

Why does the top of the mountain look like a construction zone

Last footage of the rider :-(

These guys that race on roads with no runoff are another breed. At the track people crash all the time, and go off course even more often. I haven't crashed but i've gone off course 4-5 times. I just couldn't imagine pushing the limit with zero safety net. At least with a car you have a cage around you, and if things get loose you can drop your speed rather quickly and countersteer to try and stay on the course. Not the case on a bike, once things go south, in an instant you're already sliding across pavement with no way to control your trajectory
