Pulled stock steering off, have not installed the Unisteer rack yet I realized I need to order an adapter that goes between the steering linkage and the steering column.

While the car is up I might as well finally change the oil lol.

With the age I would have figured you would have replaced the entire intermediate shaft upper U-joint and the rag joint with something more modern

^Nice. I'd still have to change the end of the steering column. I basically have something like that here, a steering linkage with splines on both ends.

Adapter is here, fits perfect. Just waiting on a replacement boot and some bolts.

Still tweaking the setup, didn't 100% fit right even though it was in another '67.

I'm still playing with the heim and bracket this is just loose in the car.

Steering rack is not a simple plug and play, I messed with it all weekend,. Learned a lot about steering racks hehe.

I have it losely in, just finger tight on the bolts, it's notchy. I have some other parts coming (long steering shaft for example), so I will have some options to change some of the angles.

That lower angle is pretty large. Check out this joint, just tossed one on a 69 mustang to resolve some notchiness from an extreme angle as well.

Nice I'll keep it in mind. I have some more shaft stock coming and the actually Unisteer bracket since this one was hand made by someone.

So I'm doing another round on this rack this weekend, I have too much time into it as it is. I hope between the 'correct' bracket and some advice I've gotten I might be able to get this all to work but that joint looks pretty interesting.

I actually have one extra at work that we didn’t need. I’d have to double check which ends are on it, but you’re welcome to it if you need, and not wait a week or two for it to arrive from Amazon.

I'm using 3/4 DD, one end is splined. Those splined ends are going into the middle joint.

The joint I have is 3/4 Smooth to 1 Double D

Gotcha. Well if the next round of fiddling with this does not go well I might hit you up. Everyone wants me to get some of the angle out of the middle joint, try to get it to 30 degrees.

This joint is very similar to a Porsche 928 factory joint that has a crazy angle and worked great. I’m in Grayslake if you need it.

To clock mine with 34 DD that joint might be tricky, because with DD I can only clock it one way or 180 opposite?

It’s a double swiveling joint, so clocking it shouldn’t necessarily matter.

Re-did the steering linkage, I bought the actual heim bracket that Unisteer sells for my car, the other bracket was made by the guy I got the rack from.

Okay, so the angles are much better, but now I'll have to cut the upper shaft down, maybe the bottom one too. Based on me looking at this alot, I "think" I should mainly focus on shortening the upper shaft. That will (a) get the heim bracket very close to the middle joint for support (but I will leave some room in between), and I think it will continue decreasing the angles in the overall linkage.

I'm going to talk to my guy at Unisteer tomorrow just to pick his brains first.
