🔧 BUILD TURBOCOP - The Poor man's Kitty Cat - Turbo 6.0 Caprice

General Information

Because I can’t afford a hellcat I got the Caprice for a fun 4 door daily. So I after I got the Caprice and drove it for a little while I noticed the motor made some small noise every time the DOD kicked in. So I decided to look into a DOD delete kit. With work being so busy and not having a garage I decided to just have Next Gen Built Performance out of Elmhurst do the work. So I dropped off the car and they got to work.
A simple cam swapped turned into
-Melling HVHP oil pump
- Billet timing gears with IWIS chain
- ARP headstuds with LS9 headgaskets
- LS7 lifters with new trays
- LS2 chain dampener
- Trunion upgrade
- BTR .660 platinum spring kit
- custom turbo cam (for future build)

I decided to still keep stock exhaust for now so it was kind of a sleeper at this point. The car ran strong and the cam was pretty choppy for a turbo cam. But the idle sucked gear because of the cam. So then I decided to start buying parts for the turbo kit. It’s a custom G8 kit built from Next Gen Built Performance.

So I picked up
- fast 85 injectors
- kenne bell bap
- circle D converter

So then the plan was for them to build the kit and then I was going to install it I wanted to save the money and I wanted to feel like I built some of the car lol. So I put a deposit down on the kit in July I think and waited, then waited, and waited some more. Finally got the message that the kit was ready but they needed my car to custom fit the intercooler and stuff.

So I dropped of the car and they got to work on fabbing. Once the fab was close to complete he made sure I wanted to install the kit myself and I told him I did because I didn’t want to pay for it. He came back a few minutes later and offered to install the kit minus the injectors, bap, and converter for free to be sure the figment was exact and I would be happy with everything. So as bad as I wanted to do some work myself, I can’t complain with the free labor and aim to please me.

The turbo kit includes

-Driver side Schedule 10 Stainless steel Turbo header
-Schedule 10 Stainless Steel cross over pipe ( OEM flange pass side to v band on drivers side)
-3 section 3.0" down pipe from turbo to trans tail shaft area (has 3 v band break outs for ease of install and servicing) 3.5" splits into dual 3" at trans tail shaft area for catback hook up)
-3" aluminum turbo charge pipe to intercooler
-3 to 3.5" post intercooler charge pipe( for SS factory maf housing)
-Comp Turbo Billet 76/75 T4 Turbo (Billet wheel anodized to your color choice) Ceramic coated turbine housing and a polished or powder coated compressor housing
-Tail Q50 Blow off valve( your color choice)
-Tail MV-R 44mm wastegate (your color choice)
-Massive high flow 18"x12"x4.5" intercooler
-couplers and clamps
-replacement engine mount bracket
-oil feed and return lines
-replacement washer tank
-replacement coolant reservoir
- 02 extension harness
-main power post relocation bracket
- single bar mild steel replacement bumper support

I still need to go pick up the car to finish with the stuff I need to do and then get it tuned. I will be switching to a squash performance fuel pump so I can get dat E85 tune, just not sure if I’m gonna do it now or spring. I’m hoping for mid 600’s and lots of fun.

I also had them connect the exhaust to the stock exhaust but with a loud valve for that sleeper effect.

So went on a trip to just outside Detroit this weekend. Before I went I knew I had to change at least the drivers seat because it was just so flattened and uncomfortable. I picked up a set of GTO seats awhile ago so I pulled the ppv seat and tried to figure out how to swap.

The front of the ppv seat was a hook mount and the GTO was bolt style, also the tears were different angles for bolt. So I took some measurements and noted the frames were the same size. I then just swapped frames.

It then bolted in fine and everything fit, but the wiring is also crazy different. So easiest thing I could think of was to just swap the wiring harnesses. The motors and seat belt was all the same connectors. The PPV seat has an airbag and the GTO doesn’t.

Essentially all I had to do was make jumper wires from the positive and ground from the ppv main harness to the gto seat plug and everything worked. The automatic seat tensioner was on the belt clip side originally for the gto seat but was moved to the door side with the ppv frame so the power module for the gto seat wouldn’t fit behind the plastic. I’ll need to lengthen the wires to hide it under the seat eventually.

I did lose power forward and back but that doesn’t really bother me. I’m the only one who drives it so I don’t it will move much. It is definitely a huge improvement over the ppv seat. I do have to get a resistor for the airbag wiring to make the light go off.
Bru while researching seats and stuff it seems changing to nice seats isn’t a huge deal. People put in Chevy SS seats, camaro seats, cts-v seats, and other random ones. You do have to figure out some wiring and switches if you wanted heated seats which I know you mentioned you’d like. Also there is finally a radio upgrade for 11-13 guys but it is like $1,200 plus you need different trim and vent pieces, but it looks awesome and is essentially an android tablet. https://kayhanaudio.com.au/product/ve-commodore-series-2-satellite-navigation/

As far as the trip goes it went great. Car just cruises nice and quiet while under light load and cruise control, passing is where this car shines. It’s just a rocket and makes getting by people so easy.

I had one stop on the way there when I got a block away from my buddies house just to refuel but would have made it on one tank of gas and that was going through traffic at 5pm on Friday with three accidents and a truck on fire in Michigan. I stopped twice on the way back, once for cheaper fuel in Indiana and met my family for lunch at Beelows on Rand rd.

Was pretty happy with the mileage and stuff for the car. Not sure how accurate this is tho.

With the seat change it’s a decent road trip car. I would like to get a better stereo but it’s so many dollars. Also would like to change to the 3.27 rear end at some point.

So went to GLD tonight. First time driving a car on the strip in 20 years. Was pretty nervous and things started out promising. Then got not good, then got good.

My first couple launches were okay. Foot brake and left, but then would spin. then a bunch of runs after that I would just blow the tires instantly.
Best 60’ was 1.8
Only 8psi boost
24 psi tire pressure

best pass was 12.1 @118.93
It definitely has low to mid 11’s in it, I’m just too much of a noob to get it right now.

I also had a stupid problem with my door leaking water that was trapped in it. It would drip right on my passenger rear tire and that why I kept spinning so bad.
