🔧 BUILD PJ’s bad idea - notch edition

General Information

Figured I might as will document this train wreck. I bought this car a long time ago as an unfinished project and parted it out. Sold the caged shell to a buddy who needed a replacement. He ended up getting out of racing and it sat for a few years. Well he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse… so it’s back

Intentions are to fix some things I don’t like, finish some things and make it a nice complete roller. At that point I will see if I can sell it quick for a little profit, otherwise I have an LS and th400 to put in it for the spring

Some details:
- Certified 25.3 chromoly cage (good for 6.50 in the 1/4 at 3600#)
- fiberglass front clip, doors, trunk
- TeamZ front suspension
- Strange brakes

Small weekend update…
After going back and forth on turbo locations 34 times, i finally welded a mount and braced it

My buddy also helped me bend up the fuel cell. Once I get the fill cap I can drill all the holes and weld it up. There is a baffle around the pumps and 1 baffle/brace down the middle. Need to find a decent drain valve for it still

Got everything cut in the tank. And a reference pic of the triple pump hanger. I was planning to keep the 3rd installed for emergency… but after seeing all the problems Boostie Boostie had with E85 gumming shit up I’m going to just install 2 and keep the 3rd as a spare

Welded it all up as best as possible. And one weld porn pic of 1% that does not represent my skills appropriately lol

Moving onto the hot side of the turbo kit. Put some vbands on the cast China headers. And tacked on the first bends to get the tubes flat and out past the motor plate. Used a 3d printed jig to cut that cause I was bored on lunch

Hose clamp and foil works well if you have a bung (O2 or backpressure) to thread the purge line into. These definitely worked well but are too rich for my blood
For the places I didn't have a bung, I got frustrated trying to keep my back purge hose in place.

I would like to get heat sink blocks for V-bands, but can't justify it for the little fab work I do. I just keep some extra sacrificial flanges on hand.

I started with a stainless billet T6 flange. I used schedule 10 elbows going into it for strength since the wastegates will be hanging on them. Those are also schedule 10 tubes. Coworker made me a vband groove in a chunk of scrap so I could use it as a heat sink

So I 3d printed some little puck things that slipped into the tubes and had a threaded hole. Everything was piloted / on center / etc to hold it all straight. I mocked the bends up, adjusted the threaded rods to length and took measurements of what straight sections I needed to cut out. Worked awesome

Final tubes are just tacked in. Need to remove it so I can tape up the ends and weld it together on the car with back purge. I want it to heat and cool in position to maybe prevent warping lol.

Also out of argon. Back purging is expensive
