So I purchased this 1995 Toyota Supra that’s been abandoned for years and has been sitting in the driveway being neglected. The first thing the car needed was a proper paint correction.
The first step was to wash the dirt off of the 12+ years of debris that has fallen on the car
Next I clay barred the entire car using Mother’s Clay Bar to take off any surface contaminants that weren’t taken off during the wash. I also had a pin stripe that went across the whole car that looked really bad. I used a 3M Eraser Wheel to take it off.
This should also give you an idea of how bad this paint was. After the pin stripe removal I tried different methods and steps to find out which course of action I needed to take to restore the paint. I recommend starting from the least abrasive procedure to the most aggressive until you find what works for you.
These are the steps that I took for my car
1.) 1500 grit wet sand by hand
2.) 3000 grit wet sand by hand
3.) Meguiars M105 with MicroFiber pad on DA
4.) Meguiars M205 with foam pad on DA
STEP 1 and 2
Wet sanding the paint will leave a flat finish. Don’t worry this will buff out !!

Now mind you, the paint IS NOT PERFECT. This car will get a professional paint job in the near future. But if your looking to improve the look of your paint, Wet sanding is a great method for getting rid of light scratches and fades. I do not recommend wet sanding unless you paint looked like mine or worse!!!

5.) M205 polish with foam pad
